Advice about Lubuskie region?

Does anyone know anything about the Lubuskie area of Poland? I've seen a couple of properties in this area I am interested in on spec, but have never been this far west?

I'm after a second home with possible holiday rental potential, but have little knowledge of this area? Can anyone help?

It is quite a strange area - very underpopulated and quite poor, emigration from here is one of the highest. Some of the towns are really quite run down - Swiebodzin, Sulechow, Sulecin etc. The two biggest towns - Gorzow and Zielona Gora are both OK but nothing special.

Basically this was German territory before the war, and while Poles who were expelled from Ukraine and Belarus mostly ended up in Wroclaw or Szczecin not many made it to Lubuskie so it is very short on industry.

Its OK for a second home but I would be frank and say your holiday rental potential is zero. No mountains, lakes or beach so not attractive for Poles and very few interesting features for foreign tourists (unless you count sex tourists who are quite frequent in Slubice and Guben).

Hi - thanks for the replies guys... I'm looking at around 150,000 Euros - I have seen some large properties in this area which look in need of restoration but would be fabulous upon completion, although judging by your comments, this explains the price.

I would like somewhere that needs a little bit of work with quite a number of bedrooms - although I said I am interested largely in a second home, I would also like to use the property for a health retreat as an extension of our UK business, so would like somewhere peaceful, in a country setting ideally.

Is the Dolnoslaskie region any more fruitful?

No lakes? What about Nieslysz? i dont know if it's still going but there used to be sort of big movie festival....Lubuskie lato filmove in this little charming village/town...From what I can remember it was one of the nicest places I'd seen in Poland...Ok, it was a while ago but....
Friend of mine is just selling piece of land she bought near Swiebozdin three years ago and getting for it double what she paid then....

Just information about the area in general - landscape, activites for visitors, is it a busy area etc?

the best palce to buy house to get away from it all are Bieszczady just look at Podkarpacie region

Househunt take a look at Wysowa in the Beskid Niski region, just 2 hours by car from Krakow. Visited there last year just for a day, it's a nice spa town close to the slovak border. attracts many tourists and the house prices haven't spirald out of control yet.Your budget will still go a long way there.
