Advise on payment for a person who supervises an apartment in Poland?

Hello.

I am not sure if this is a suitable section to post this but it did not seem to relate to any other sections. My question is what would be a fair weekly amount to pay (in zloty) for a local person to go to a unit in Warsaw couple of times a week and empty the mail and occasionally let some one in to view the unit? The unit has a back-to-base alarm system but this is just a supplementary security measure.

You are not paying someone to do much work. You are paying them to keep them in your employ.

yes and no .... since the common knowledge is that time is most expensive....

anyway the idea is great and worth of the suggested "investment". That would be good if from time to time they could leave the lights open or I dont know turn on TV set with timer... just the make the place looks alive...

Thank you very much for your comments. What about in a situation in which they just lived in the general area of Warsaw and had to travel around 2-3 hours per week? What would be a fair amount? I would like to be generous so that the person would be happy to also from time to time show people the place etc but naturally I need to keep down costs until I can sell the property so in that view I would like to be paying an amount which is not excessive. This is the first time I have been involved in such a situation so I really appreciate the help you guys are giving me.

Good comment but it is not practical. If you guys can give me an idea based around the total of 2-3 hours travel per week that would be great. As it stands. I do not think my family in Sydney personally knows anyone in the building although I will look into it.

As it stands It has been proposed that I pay 400zl per week for someone who drives there but I do not know from where exactly, I can only guess it could not be too far away but would like to factor in up to 3 hours a week which should more than cover it. As a local what would you guys deem a fair but generous amount.

I think 400 zl per week would be VERY generous amount. I could do it for 200 zl a week.

In short at 400zl a week would you say I am being ripped of? I do not personally know this person and I obviously don't want to be taken advantage of. To put it in other terms what is an average weekly salary so I can put this into perspective.

Warsaw living can be expensive and driving cost could be significant too (high gas prices); I would say if the person is doing his/her job well and you don't have to worry about the unit at all, 600-900 zl a month would be fair to spend 2-3 hours a week to do the job. 1600 a month could be a little too steep.

PS. You wrote "a couple of days a week" - if it's more than once a week, I would say around 1,000 zl a month would be fair..

LOL, thats what a average Pole earns a month... why don't you get on contact with a policeman from a local police station and tell him your plight, I'm sure he will organise something for you, more reliable and more cheaper than anywhere else...hmmmm try it..

Not in Warsaw which is in the first 25 of most expensive cities to live in Europe. I believe an average in Warsaw is about 3000 zl a month.

Average wage it may well be minus tax of some 1000zl, leaves about 2000zl clear,
average wage means average wage, most poles earn some 1500zl clear per month.. read previous discussions on this topic please.

You may not know "wage" means "weekly payment" while "salary" means "montly payment".

Either way, not sure why you refer to "most poles" when we talk about Warsaw (Mazowieckie area). On average, Poles earn more and more each year so what you might have been reading a year ago is not true today.

Here is a recent table of average earnings of Poles in the different regions of Poland - in the Mazowieckie area an average salary is 3,450 Zlotych (I believe it's before taxes; after taxes it should be about 3,000). Also note that people who work in Warsaw city probably earn about 10-25% more than those who work in the other regions of the "Mazowieckie area".

Thank you for all the replies and suggestions. I will try and get some solid info on what constitutes the 400 zl a week amount. It does though clearly seem that this amount is too high to be paying for several months for what is needed and that I should seek more affordable and practical alternatives.

Don't think so, can i suggest approx 2800zl.... interesting stats, don't forget you have a huge bucket of people like politicians and business people etc that bring up the average, I'm sure the average bus driver, cleaner, clerk, office worker don't see that sort of money....very misleading figures.

Note it could take an hour to drive 10 km in Warsaw rush hour. So the distance could be "misleading" too.
