At what age children suppose to be when they start high school and finish high school in Poland? What do they do afterwards? Because I know some guys who are 20yrs old and are still in high school there in Poland. I'm a little confused ;P

They have a different system. In Scotland, we start primary school (elementary) school at 4 and finish at 11. Then, 11-17 in secondary school (high school). U can finish at 15 if u wish. Poland, well, they have gimnazjum and liceum. Gimnazjum is from 12/13 to 15/16, depending on ur DOB. Liceum is from 16-19. U can also do technikum or zawodowa. Poland doesn't have high school exactly as we know it. It's more normal to finish in ur teenage but some finish at 20. Średnia szkoła (high school) is either liceum or technikum for Polish students. Some say zawodowa (vocational school) is high school but it doesn't give u Matura, needed for Uni

old system (changed a few years ago)
a child born in 1990:
- 1997 szkoła podstawowa (for 8 yrs.)
- 2005 szkoła średnia (zawodowa for 3 yrs./liceum for 4 yrs./technikum for 5 yrs.)
[if you pass the maturity exam (matura/egzamin dojrzałości) in your liceum/technikum, you can take entry exams at uniwersytet or other type of high school (in the Polish sense of the word)]
- (on average) 2009 - uniwersytet or akademia (for 5-6 yrs. depending on what you chose to study)

new system
a child born in 1990:
- 1997 szkoła podstawowa (for 6 yrs.)
- 2003 gimnazjum (for 3 yrs.)
- 2006 szkoła średnia (zawodowa for x yrs./liceum for 3 yrs./technikum for 4 yrs.)
[after matura in your liceum/technikum]
- (on average) 2009 - uniwersytet or akademia

I'm 19 years old and I'm in my last year of High School. (Graduation in April 2008)
If someone is 20 and he's still in High School means probably he missed one year or he's a student of Technikum, which takes 4 years and not 3 like my Liceum

It might take a little longer in Poland to finish their schooling because some of the children go to secondary school and do their matura-A levels along with a profession at the same time. My wife did that and very much regrets it. Parents of the working class seldom think long term-in sociology it is called the short term advantage. A dustman today may earn more than a trainee solicitor but in twenty years time, the roles are well and truly reversed.
