All the smiles went away?

The cons overweighted the pros; the most powerful email systems ((gmail, hotmail, yahoo, etc.) don't use smilies either because the actual post text is the most important "feature" of any message.

Avatars, profile pictures, file addon, and all other features will be left forever, though (even though now the user may decide if s/he wants to see avatars in posts).

On the other hand, there can only be several (or maybe dozen) of smilies [some could call it "positions" :]. All smilies/positions every time the same.

<trying to be funny> Not having smilies allows you to unleash your imagination at your will. :)

Plus - even if we installed 100 different smilies, imagine how much time it would take to actually determine which smile matches your sentence/message (to go over 100 smilies takes time...). It seems it's better to write another few words to express yourself ;).

Anyone else see the beauty in the thought of a man with a smiley as his avatar banning smileys.

Meeting of the PFA

So we've tried over zealous moderating Reg, it's worked to a point but there are still a few with their own vibrance and personality shinging through clinging on. We need to shake them off.

All: Right!

It's still too much fun here, what else can we do?

<thinks>

Make it member only?

No Loretta, they want that. Can't you remember the golden rule?

What's that then?

All: Never give the public what they want...

Ahh I've got it...

No smileys.

All: No Smileys?

<nodding, evil grin> No Smileys

Genius.

I'm adding my few cents to this. Was it really so bad with the emoticons? The posts had more life in them. A few participants may have abused the use of them and included 7 smileys in 3 sentences, but most people did use them sparingly...

Now everybody is still trying to express emotions with symbols. I don't even know most of them so I'm making a use out of the 'smiley faces chart' posted by admin!
Oh, bring them back, please. <sad>

Therein lies the rub. Life is the name of the game and its not only Bruce that wants to play it with us apparently.

When we're having fun and feeling relaxed horrible things happen. Poetry, flowers, blossoming friendships. Poland might bind us together but it doesn't feel so important anymore.
Understanding and common interests the biggest Icebreaker out there.

the forum

I think it was a Roman that decided common ground was a good thing. I think they even had a word for it. <looks for the confused I wonder if anyone can help me emoticon>

Learning, getting to know other people is much easier when there is fun associated with it. Long, long time ago I was going to grade and High school in Poland. Our learning was very sincere. Silliness or joking around was frown upon. We had to greet the teacher first when he(she) walked into the classroom. We all got up politely saying 'Dzien dobry panie profesorze". (Good day professor). The teacher would never say Hello first.

Then I moved to the US and started my schooling again, English first, college next...lots of learning full of fun, role playing and smiles. It was a different world.

That's what the smileys mean to me.

Which country has the better GPA per student? :)

The US is ranked very low when it comes to the education of its students. 17 of the top 20 universities in the world are in the US, but about 3-5 of them rank in top scores among the world. The US should start to make school much more important, while keeping it fun :)
