Alone in Krakow, what to do?

Hello!

I`m in Krakow between 19-25.11. The days will be busy, but I can`t figure out what to do alone in the evenings. I think it wont be very interesting to sit alone in the bar or someplace like this, but I also don`t want to spend all evenings in the hotel.

What are the "must-see" places in Krakow where I defenately should go? I know nothing about Poland.

Other question is how much money I should take for a week? I don`t pay for the hotel, transport and meals, so I need it only for my own, if I would like to have a cup or coffee somewhere or visit museums and so on.

Check out these sites. I think that you'll be very comfortable with about 500zl unless you have very extravagant ideas. Have a good time in Krakow.

Damn, wish I'd seen this thread earlier, you could have come on random walkabouts with me and my ex-pat friend.
Oh well, now I'm signed up to this site I will try to keep my eyes open for these kind of posts, I'm getting pretty good at getting about Krakow, and usually raise a smile with my attempts at Polish, or Polglish!

Krakow is a tourist city and there is a lot of spoken English - you will do fine.

In case of problems say that you are Irish, not British.

They'll know anyway due to the fact that you'll be having a visibly good time rather than nursing a pint with a straw in it.

Jestem Irlandczykiem. To jest prawda.

Seriously, is being Irish safer than being English?

Anyway, a couple of questions about Kraków, where I'm headed soon. To jest mój pierwszy raz w Polsce.

1. Do people appreciate it if you speak Polish, even if not perfectly, or would they prefer English?

miranda:

Honestly, Miranda, I'd prefer to speak Polish but do local people have the patience to put up with those whose first language it clearly isn't?

2. Where are the best jazz venues? Not the big touristy ones.

3. What are the best venues in the city to listen to traditional Polish music? Again, not the touristy ones.

4. If I'm out late, is it easy to get a taxi back to the hotel? (It certainly isn't in Dublin on a Saturday night!)

Dziękuyę bardzo
