Kilkline:

So you're upset that they generalised about you because of your nationality? And your conclusion from this anecdote was to generalise about their nationality? Is that correct or did you miss some other part out?

Yes, the part you're missing is an actual response. On the contrary, my post is quite specific as are my examples. I can get even more specific if you'd like.

this whole thread is garbage, you've got Polish (Poland one of the more racist nations) calling the Americans and UK the most racist (When we have accepted and are multicultural and multinational, more so than Poland will ever be).

It is so hypocritical of the Polish to complain about racism or any other type of abuse they recieve while in foreign nations, there is racism in EVERY NATION not just he UK or US, it is everywhere!!!!. In Poland racism is a big issue, you have so many Neo Nazi's its unbelievable!!!!.

So get of your high horses and come to realise that the problem of racism is a 'worldwide' issue, including Poland.

Yes, I agree, but usually the hypocrisy of that sort is mostly if not always started by an English male.

Wroclaw Boy:

I have traveled and conducted business in the US of A numerous times and i have never experienced a nation to be so racist in my entire life!! I am only talking about the state of Florida in this particular report.

Of course racism is a world wide problem and yes it exist everywhere. However, I would argue that no where does it exist quite as freely or as systemically as it does in the United States of America.

However, the reason it exists so rampantly here is because America, while being the most racist country on Earth, is also the most tolerant. Racism is the counter attack to tolerance and where you have one you have the other. Poland may seem "less" racist because there is less multi-culturalism there (which is partly a product to the great racist reaction to Poland's former tolerance; the Holocaust).

And before the Warsaw8s of the world take this as an indictment of multiculturalism; no matter how many pains and horrible aspects American racism has caused (and there have been a terrible too many) it will never outweigh the positives and joy that multiculturalism creates.

MarcinD:

Here in Southern California you have every corner of the globe covered, so people are rather not racist compared to the rest of the world.

Rubbish. California is as racist as anywhere else. Rodney King was only a decade ago, let I remind you. I live in Los Angeles and see horrible racism everyday, much more than I did when I lived in Iowa a section of the midwest you pegged as being racist. But, proving my point from before, California is more diverse than Iowa. Thus CA has more racism.

Please enlighten me as to how you arrive at the statement "the US is the most racist country on Earth." Is that coming from a real world view and survey of past histories and current laws of multiple countries on earth, or is that just more guilty, American-centric apologist mantra talking?

What is the "horrible racism" you see in California every day? BTW, I have been an activist my entire life against racism and have only worked for non-profits and NGOS on poverty alleviation and other grassroots projects, and am voting for Obama, just so you get an idea with whom you are talking.

And, I am not discussing the racism of Poland here. I haven't been to Poland. I am discussing the opening post and title of this thread. I'd like to transition to facts.

I am only talking about the state of Florida in this particular report. Every fast food restaurant or convenience shop I visited I experienced a black or South American person behind the counter looking back at me with real contempt. On the other hand all business meetings were conducted with white people! a mistory nes pa? Tell me if im wrong please because i would love to hear it. Were always seeing on TV what a wonderful country the US of A is but in reality i think it is somewhat different.

Wroclaw Boy:

Have you ever been to America? I can only talk for South American states swhich I have visited on numerous occasions and I was shocked to see the poverty of which so called USA citizens were confined to such as trailer parks and worse... In England we have council estates wherere by citizens with no money and by all accounts bum's who have no means to support themselves live. Trailer parks and places of poor equlity in the US are the lowest of the low these people have no health insurance or any kind of social benefit at all.n Thats why I ask you do you know what you are talikng about.

I am a proud American and as I said, America is the most tolerant nation on Earth. We have time and again been the ones to open our doors and allow multi-culturalism but that comes with a price. And that price is racism. And unfortunately it's been as much a part of the fabric of American life as freedom of speech or apple pie.

In terms of specific things here in Los Angeles? Just off the top of my head; How about the fact that blacks in general get 8 times the length of prison sentences as whites do for the same crime (the national average is 4 times). 88 percent of high school drop outs in LA are minorities. Blacks with college degrees are have 1/8 the same chance of getting a job in the year after graduation than whites do. The University of California-Los Angeles, a school that brings in 4,000 freshman every year, allowed in only 12 black students that weren't athletes. There have been nearly a quarter more race related police beating in Los Angeles in the last 15 years compared to the rest of the country. I live in South Central LA and I see everyday how I'm looked at compared to my black neighbors. And that is today, 2008. If you want to get into historical issues, I can paint an even uglier picture.

Listen, Calicoe, I see where you're coming from, and all the America bashing that goes on here disturbs me as well. But denial, or turning a blind eye on an issue that I consider to be America's most crucial is not wise either. America is a great country, the greatest of all countries, but there are bad people here, and I'd just as soon fight them than pretend they don't exist.

Don't be so foolish as to think that I would come here and start this discussion based on one experience. You want proof - look all over your media and blogesphere for English and Anglo-Saxon comments about Americans. It is a joke that someone even has to back this up for you. One of your tabloids even ran a poll a few months back on how something like 80% of English agree that Americans are vulgar! Can you imagine - a newspaper. American newspapers could never get away with something like that. I have seen "respectable" discussions on BBC news channels where the discussants made condescending and derogatory remarks about Americans, completely out of the context of the discussion - in other words - completely unnecessary and unrelated to the discussion, as if it was totally acceptable behavior on a serious news talk show. I have seen ridiculous newscast on the BBC, where some reporter was searching American university campuses to find dissent to the war in Iraq, only to report triumphantly that there were none, except her reactionary and propoganderist ass never left Washington, DC! Did she bother to investigate the campus of Berkely or countless others that held demonstrations, or a massive march on Washington, and other impromptu protests in other cities nearby - of course not. Better to propagate the English stereotype of monolithic, yokel Americans, so that the English don't have to look closely at what has happened to their tabloid-infested expansion of trash culture.

I actually used to really like the English, too, like so many clueless Americans, and would adore their accents and getting to know them when I met them here, or when I was abroad. And then I actually heard what they were saying.

No, my friend, this isn't based on one incident but goes way back. I have lived in 4 different countries, and actually have good English friends. I'm sorry to be so blunt here and take this tone, but the English need an honest response from Americans, even if we do it in the same harsh manner that they have been doing this to us for decades now. We have been much too polite.

I have to go, but I have much more to discuss here, including history, and I can substantiate it. So, when you're ready to have a real discussion and not try to create a diversion by these silly denials, I'm ready.

byeski.

*edit/added: Ebony, I tried to respond to you in another post but the format wouldn't let me. You don't have to preface your comments to me with patriotic statements, because I don't care. That is not a rude comment. I am not patriotic myself, but rather a truth seeker. I just like to call things as I see it.

I will be back to continue my discussion with you as well.

sorry that was meant to say abuse, lol i think my finger jumped to the 'b' key before the 'a' :).

What i was asking is where do you get your idea that it is 'English Males' that always start the abuse towards Poles?? Personally i think your talking from somewhere that is not your mouth. Talk about a generalisation 'english males' hhhmmmm. So that must inlcude, me and the other 'English males' on here?? When have i myself been 'Racist' against the Polish?? You think i make it part of my day to be abusive to Polish people on the street, or to those who i am at university with or meat while i'm working??

I think you need to take a raincheck on what you have said, stop trying to deflect the subject of racism away from the Polish and dump it on the English. There are just as many racist Poles as there are English, in fact you would have thought the Polish know exactly what it is like to be persicuted!!!.

wow wow wow, you think the English hate the Americans??? ok so maybe some of the British are not fans of your Political characters but on the whole i would say you guys are pretty much liked over hear. THe only negative stuff i hear about Americans talked about in the general public is always to do with politics and nothing else.

Personally i like Americans, yeah some of them are dumb but hay there are dumb Brits too. Your always going to have more dumb people than us but thats because you have a bigger population :).

Like that example above, a bit of a joke, i wouldn't say people are seriously against Americans or have a problem with them. I suppose i can only talk for the South West of England, however still there is no really big 'anti American' feeling going on.

I do hope that in America people do not think the British do not like their cousins from across the pound because i think on the whole we do.

One Poll, one tabloid. Tabloids do Polls all the time on all sorts of inconsequential things. Its a shame you picked up on this one to feed you paranoia. And yes I can imagine an American paper running poll like that about a country. In fact I can imagine the entire American media running a campaign of vitriol against a European country. The 'Freedom Fries' debacle wasnt that long ago was it? 'Cheese eating surrender monkeys' ring any bells? I'm sure being French in the US of A was a load of fun at the time.
What impression is the US media giving of Iran at the moment? Or China? All accurate and even handed?

Calicoe:

Come on! Are you that sensitive? Also the only discussion show on a BBC News channel is hosted by a Scotsman (Gavin Esler) and all the guests are from around the world. So was it really English people who were making these suposedly upsetting comments?

All in all, what do you expect? America is not seen as a force for good in the world by most countries. Is criticism so hard to take? Are you so surprised that the world doesnt love you?

You say you've been to 4 countries. Do you speak the languages of any of these countries so that you can get as 'accurate' an impression of their opnions of the USA as you obviously experienced in England?

I think we're a little surprised, you , the British, are so vociferous about it. I can say this about the Nazis and the Soviets, when they said they hated you they meant it.. they didn't pretend to be your friends. Face it, you're gutless.

BTW.. you're sensationalizing the "world's " hate of us.. it's not that widespread. You just wish it was that widespread. If we're so loathed why would the Poles do a deal like this with us?? Last month in California, huge wild fires raging: New Zealand, the Aussies.. and the Greeks came to help out. Sound like hate to you?

I'm sincerely glad Americans on here get to see who the British really are..

There's one thing I don't like about Americans. Alot of them are too dramatic. They cry too much, they like to feel sorry for themselves. I, myself, personal couldn't give a rats arse if nobody likes the British. There are alot of countries that DON'T like the British. So what? There are countries that DO like the British. Again, so what? :/

I'm looking forward to it.*

America's standing in the world right now is poor, everybody knows this. Much of the disdain is reasonable and fair, a lot of it is not. When you are the most visible nation on Earth it goes with the territory. The English opinion that Americans are beastly and uncivilized is natural and as old as the hills (or the colonies at least). It would be nice if America was generally loved but I'm afraid us Yanks must take our lumps at least for the time being.

*I know sincerity on the internet is rare, indeed, but I truly am awaiting your return, you've got quite a spirit and good points too.

are you some sort of in plant from the middle east sent to try and destroy the friendship between America/UK??? or what???

As i've said before i think you will find any negative views the British have about America tend to be aimed at your politicians and political decisions and not on Americans as a whole. Your talking tripe and you know it!!!!

What are you basing your idea that the British don't like the Americans?? a few jokes in a bar?? Somebody called a yank stupid, the Americans shoot and ask questions later or a nation of obese fat B*stards.

While i agree that we are not always in support of American/UK foreign policy i see no reason for you to think that the British 'People' do not like Americans or have anything against them!!!!.

Poles took your missiles. Some Greeks helped you put out a fire. Britain is the only country that has lost scores of soldiers in America's war on terror in the wake of 9/11. Maybe we should withdraw our troops and send you a fire engine to show our love.
