Yes, the part you're missing is an actual response. On the contrary, my post is quite specific as are my examples. I can get even more specific if you'd like.
you'll have to as so far all you've done is give an anecdote about some english people who thought you were being rude and insensitive to a foreigner and gave you the cold shoulder because of it. from this you've deduced that english people are what?
Don't be so foolish as to think that I would come here and start this discussion based on one experience. You want proof - look all over your media and blogesphere for English and Anglo-Saxon comments about Americans. It is a joke that someone even has to back this up for you. One of your tabloids even ran a poll a few months back on how something like 80% of English agree that Americans are vulgar! Can you imagine - a newspaper. American newspapers could never get away with something like that. I have seen "respectable" discussions on BBC news channels where the discussants made condescending and derogatory remarks about Americans, completely out of the context of the discussion - in other words - completely unnecessary and unrelated to the discussion, as if it was totally acceptable behavior on a serious news talk show. I have seen ridiculous newscast on the BBC, where some reporter was searching American university campuses to find dissent to the war in Iraq, only to report triumphantly that there were none, except her reactionary and propoganderist ass never left Washington, DC! Did she bother to investigate the campus of Berkely or countless others that held demonstrations, or a massive march on Washington, and other impromptu protests in other cities nearby - of course not. Better to propagate the English stereotype of monolithic, yokel Americans, so that the English don't have to look closely at what has happened to their tabloid-infested expansion of trash culture.
I actually used to really like the English, too, like so many clueless Americans, and would adore their accents and getting to know them when I met them here, or when I was abroad. And then I actually heard what they were saying.
No, my friend, this isn't based on one incident but goes way back. I have lived in 4 different countries, and actually have good English friends. I'm sorry to be so blunt here and take this tone, but the English need an honest response from Americans, even if we do it in the same harsh manner that they have been doing this to us for decades now. We have been much too polite.
I have to go, but I have much more to discuss here, including history, and I can substantiate it. So, when you're ready to have a real discussion and not try to create a diversion by these silly denials, I'm ready.
byeski.
*edit/added: Ebony, I tried to respond to you in another post but the format wouldn't let me. You don't have to preface your comments to me with patriotic statements, because I don't care. That is not a rude comment. I am not patriotic myself, but rather a truth seeker. I just like to call things as I see it.
I will be back to continue my discussion with you as well.
