how long is your piece of string morella...?

there is a lot more to starting a business than a large pile of capital but just to help you dream, lets throw the random figure of 15999 zl into the air and see what people say

Totally agree :)

...he's just looking for ideas and I think that has to be admired......how do you gain such knowledge if you haven't done it b4 ?

Most entrepreneurs, big or small usually like to share their experiences :)

Morella, I'd narrow it down a bit. First of all have you any experience in the catering or management side ? That has to be the most important thing to consider first b4 thinking about how much money you need. There is a saying 'A fool and his money are soon parted' and that's even more true when you first start up in Business. It's not about throwing money into any old business. Go for something you have some experience in. And if you don't have the experience then get some. Just my view :)

this is true... some charge for their advice, its called consultancy...

but for the sake of an idea:

rent room put in internet connection buy half dozen computers invest in a wii and you have an internet cafe specialising in gaming - huge market in poland and minila start-up costs

Yeahhhhh I suppose it is........:) But what would I know. A mere novice ,lol......

a true entrepreneur usually likes to talk about his achievements.........consultants aren't always true entrepreneurs, they just like to think they know it all......<grin>

For language school? Well, I suppose that would be enought for small one, I mean small local, 1-2 employees with salary not higher than 2500PLN.. and with 40k PLN company should survive first 3-4 months. For caffe/pub you need much more $.

edit:
I'm not sure if local is good word, I meant place where the language school will be teaching.

Look to see if there are any gaps in the market......I don't know Poland like bubba does because he is there already , in the business field.

But I noticed someone was asking after yarn and thread shops............if there aren't any, you could set up shop over the internet, buying the stuff direct from the manufacturers and selling online to people. Thing is you need a bit of knowledge or experience.

Look for opportunities, they're right under your nose..........:)

???

It's true.....

There was nothing behind that comment directed anywhere.......in my experience, of which I have a little (well a bit more than little) that fact is true.....

And you can learn so much by listening to people who have their own businesses.......doesn't matter what the business is, small, medium or large :)

I agree it all depends on what business you decide, and where and how big you want to start.

Where do you live at the moment Morella ?
Have you been to Poland before ? Do you speak Polish ?
What are your interests ?

Maybe that will help someone steer you in a reasonable direction :)

Hi Morella

Why Katowice? Where are you now? The next time you're in Krakow take a walk up Krolewska. This area is becoming very trendy with locals as well as the resident expates. Rents are very low compared to the Rynek and Kazimierz and there is definately a buzz for future bistros, cafes, bars, ---- I was in Tarnow on Saturday night and the town was packed but I know nothing about business opportunities there.
If you need more information I'm more than happy to help.

Regards

Arthur

Well, running pub is very complicated thing ... much of paper work, all permisions and so on. Costs depends of place where you want to run it, how big it will be, what style and much more. I think (but I might be wrong) that you need at least 100k PLN to start and monthly costs of running will be around 10k PLN (for small-medium size bar in town centre) .

Just keep in mind there is no 'buy it now' option - it's just starting price and I'm sure they wouldn't sell these pubs at these prices (even though their places are just ugly).

i wouldnt be suprised if this is the price paid... or perhaps less...

but it'd be a good idea to do homework as well as find out what the property rental agreement is first cos all your buying is the business not the local

Heres my idea for a business.
Rent a shop in a trendy resort like Sopot( for six months starting around April ).
Sell trendy clothes from Western Europe ( Diesel, Replay etc)
See how its going after four months - extend lease/buy.

Your average Pole will not go there but there is a new class emerging with money to spend.

Any thoughts ?
