Polish people in Poland sometimes are distrustful, envious and even hostile towards Polish living abroad.
On the other hand they accuse Poles living abroad of looking down and frowning upon Poland. In their opinion, if you decided to leave Poland and settle down elsewhere, take on a different citizenship, or you were born outside Poland, then you shouldn't call yourself a Polish anymore. They don't like when Polonia votes in Polish elections, and to be honest I can see their point.

It has nothing to do with mistrust. It's all about envy and jealousy. People in poland know how easy life is in canada, for example, compared to poland. An educated or skilled(mechanic, electrician, etc..) canadian can live a very comfortable life in this country. In poland, this is not the case. Doctors(800zl/month), teachers, professors, engineers make next to nothing. This is not limited to poles though, most of the people on this planet would do anything to live like the average canadian.

As for voting in polish elections by poles living abroad, well i think that is completely ridiculous. I only vote in canadian elections, since i live here and follow this countries politics (as best i can, i really don't like politics btw).

Anyone know the official statistics (if they exist) on who the polonia voted for in the last election?

the government surely does... you actually used a unique country with that respect, as your example... french really overextend themselves for almost any amount of their own blood.. poland would do well to learn from them.

the french view anyone who has some french blood as french.. one can declare citizenship by just saying so. a friend of mine who is french has a couple of kids with an american woman.. the kids will attend universities in france or quebec at no cost. (the kids speak french - one of the requirements)

Polish lobby in USA is hopeless ... think 38 mln Poles in Poland and 20 mln living abroad why I have to pay taxes or educate or have road law as they want. (hopefully most of them don't vote)

BTW we get more money from Germans (EU) than form American Poles ...

you are Polish come back here and be Pole :) vote work pay taxes :) welcome in family

I live outside of Poland since my youth, me voting for its current leaders is absolutely ridiculous. Only those that are directly affected by the candidates that are on the ballot should cast their votes. I am over seas and it sickens me that I have the same right as somebody that the recent winner PO policies affect. This is ********.

Give me like 5% of a real vote and I would understand.

(...) f u.. my US tax dollars have fed your arse for many years. (...)

plk123: the way you write seems you think you are better from anyone here. I'm still thinking that here should vote people that support this country.

There is 2 types of PL emigrations, one is from comunismus times and the second is recent years. I know few people from "old" emigrations and their style of thinking, they are all the same (from my familiar). They remember PL are bad, there is only comunismus and everyone has Fiat 126p or 125p, better ones have Lada :P And to be sure those are things they remember when went out from here.
The second type of emigration is for money, recent years. I know this very well, my best friends moved to the UK. This step changed them completely... but those people have clear view what's going here.

My opinion about Polonia is that everyone can be OK and everyone can be bad. I'm not speaking in general, because I'm not going to value people.

In my opinion even long-time emigrant who visit Poland from time to time but regularly follow situation in Poland, reading much about it might vote wiser than a lot of Poles, those who are little interested but vote because this is "patriotic thing to do". No matter whether you are emigrant or living in Poland, if you have no clue about politics then your "patriotic things to do" is to stay out. Political parties think otherwise, because ignorant voters consist always the largest share of their electorate.

Sadek thinks probably that 20 millions of Polonia have Polish citizenship and may influence the elections... If PO voters like him dislike Polonia so much, vote for UPR. Pure and simple. :)

I think that if someone seels Polish, than he is Polish. I admire people whe search for their roots. But being Polish doesn't meen you know how it is to live here. even if you visit Polans every fer years. Last elections showed the difference between Polish people who emigrated to work in last few years and Poles who were born abroad or emigrated long time ago. UK Polonia voted on PO because they realised the situation ander PiS rule. USA Polonia voted on PiS, and that made me shocked!
I think that making general opinions in such toppic is not good. I don't know all Polonia in the world, and Polonia doesn't know all Poles living in Poland.

Of course LPR are not any Nazis. Recently they had even better voting record than PO, laughable. According to the Polish Chamber of Commerce.

If people decide to leave the country of their birth to make a better life for themselves so be it, it's been happening for a long time, if someone cant be arsed leaving to make make their life better, suck it! tough!
