hehe I think i've been reading to many text messages. I read the title of your post in my head as "Anyone else want to polish" (as in cleaning something shiny, not the nationality)

Hmm, think I should go to bed. Anyway, Hi there.

Y'all are so friendly on here!

Heres my story:
My mom lived in Janow (small town near Lublin; About 2 hours from Warsaw) all her life until she was 23. Then She moved here with her cousin and his wife, who then introduced her to the man who is now my dad. It's a good story if you ask me! But I am for sure 1/2 Polish, 1/2 American, no doubt about it!

Also, I know the basics of Polish. Very, Very basic.

You mother came to US as a citizen of Poland, so you are also - ask for Polish Citizenship and you will be 100% American and 100% Polish

Polish_Chick. your American by citizenship, your heritage would be Polish and
whatever your fathers nationality is English? German? Irish? etc.

America is nation of Immigrants, so therefore you would be another nationality
unless your father was American Indian , cherokee? etc.

My kids (12 and 11) feel much happier when they are around other bilinguals/bi-culturals.
It's a shame you didn't learn Polish from your mom - I've got a Polish doctor friend in England who's not speaking Polish with her kids, and they're lost when they come to Poland. Her parents had to learn English (because they were desperate).
It's a tough language, but not impossible to learn.
French and Spanish (and English, for that matter) are easy to start with, then get very difficult later on; Polish is the opposite

Well, I have 2 aunt and uncles living here who speak Polish all the time, and when I do go to PL, (ive been 3 times) i usually pick up on it. my mom and i speakl some of the basic polish, yet ive got to focus on school now. during the summers though, i get tons of practice. i also have 3 cousins, and one who is my age lived in poland until she was 7, so she teaches me some stuff. I just find all the grammer the hardest. i know the basic form of some words, yet when I say it it is bad grammer in Polish. So confusing!

I think if parents didn teach their kids mother tongue, then they didnt want them to be and to feel polish.. what is apparently sad..

Anyway, since when paper decides about nationality?

It must have been tough life of your Dad, which make it understandable why he didnt want you to know Polish.. to avoid your interest of this country.
