Hello,

I am a 22-year-old Canadian teaching English in a town called Glogow (about 1.5 hrs away from Wroclaw) and I feel a bit...lost. I work for a small English school and I don't know many people. Is there anyone in or around this area? (preferably around my age)

Hi there

I'm not really all that close to you but I might be as good as it gets! I only just recently found an english speaker living an hour from me! I have been searching since I arrived almost two years ago! I'm 25, from Scotland and I live in Swiebodzin. It's about 40km north of Zielona Gora. Unfortunately the other person I found is north of here so not in your area at all! I completely know how you feel though!

Hi Clarabelle

I googled your town and it seems to be smaller than mine! How do you live a normal life there, have you been able to make friends? By the way whereabouts in Scotland are you from, my dad immigrated to Canada from Motherwell, I love scottish people! do u have msn?

And Lowfunk, what school did you apply for??

I think there's only about 2 or 3 English schools in this town. And no, I wouldn't recommend coming here since it isn't easy to make friends, you're better off looking for a job in a more populated city where it may be easier to find people online and there will be more native English people. Also, try to work for a bigger English school, with lots of teachers, especially native ones because there will be more people in your situation who will be more sympathetic to you, plus more people who will be willing to go to the pub with you. It isn't pleasant working for a small school where the few Polish teachers working there are cold and unfriendly to you.

Hi frilly_lilly! I don't know if my life here is exactly normal but I like it! I don't have a lot of close friends here but my students ask me to parties quite often, more so recently so its not so bad! I also met a really nice english girl who lives in Gorzow on here recently. There aren't any other English speakers in the town and my school has only Polish teachers who are really lovely but they are all much older and married with families so we don't do things socially very often.

My family moved around a bit when I was younger. So I am sort of from both Ayrshire and perthshire. I know motherwell though! And I have some relatives in Canada! I do have msn. I'll pm you my id.

Lowfunk99, I don't live in Zielona Gora but I go there quite often since it is the nearest biggish town. I am sure there are some English Speakers there but I haven't found them yet! In fact I am off to Zielona Gora today for a couple of hours.
