Should I Be Nervous About Going to Poland? Black female dating a Pole.

Me Again,

Lemme start by saying that I'm not tryna generalize but
I really wanna kno, are Polish ppl generally discriminatory
towards black ppl?

Lemme break it down. Ma Polish boyfriend's grandparents
and brother r visiting from Poland. We got on really well.
Me with ma broken Polish and their limited English lol!
Ma boyfriend comes from a pretty relaxed family and they
didn't mind him kissin me in their presence. So we were on the
bus earlier today and chit chattin in Polish and he was holdiing
and kissin me like he always does (he's very into public display of
affection) Then this Polish lady comes over to the grannys, very
angry and wanted to kno why the grannys didn't do summin about
their grandson openly kissin a black girl.
She said (and these were her exact words), "Proper Polish men
don't date black ppl." She actually used the n-word.
I tried not to feel offended by this statement
because I've lived all ma life in Europe and I've been discriminated
against severally but I was really upset that she sed that to the grannys.

So now I'm really concerned about wut pplz reactions in Poland will
be towards me wen I go there. Should I be?

I beg ppl who r gunno reply to this msg not to say anything insultive becos
all I'm askin for is guidance. Thanks.... Dziekuje!

I'd say that the percentage of racists is more or less the same in every
European society. You'll see those scumbags everywhere, just as
there are thieves, rapists and murderers in every country.

Poland is no different in that matter, so you don't have to be concerned
about racism in Poland any more than you'd have to be before going to
Ireland, France or Greece.

I hope that you won't encounter any unpleasant behaviour when visiting
our country and that you'll enjoy your stay in Poland.

The problem is Polish people are afraid of everything that is slightly different than they are. I'd say it's much worse in Poland then it is in the western Europe.. you can expect problems especially with older people and various mobs of young thugs.

O-------k

McCoy, dude I am black! AND HELLA PROUD TOO!

Torq I grew up in France. No one wud eva say a thing like that.

Frd, I feel u. Wut rlly concerns me is the fact that this lady lives
in London and she reacted like this. I'm pretty sure I'm gunno be
snarled at a couple of times. Hopefully no one'll try to beat me up....

*sigh*

Well there are few afroamerican guys learning programming at my uni - and I have never heard that they had any real problems, although I've seen some morons laughing at them behind their backs at the uni, it wasn't anything hostile just them beeing boorish scaredy cats.. You should be more careful while walking though generally dangerous districts, or late at night in the tube, I'd say you are just more prone to beeing offended or attacked in these than an average person. And about older people - try to treat them as air, you can't do anything and they can't do anything...

You should come to terms with such reactions... most of people will be shocked, although there are both tolerant and intolerant ones, It depends where you appear with your boyfriend... I'm sure that if I were kissing with my bf in some places full of people, they would stare at me as well. And your situation would be much worse heh. Your preferences aren't acceptable for too many Poles, you have to be aware of this.

you can expect problems especially with older people and various mobs of young thugs.

I agree. Besides there is a difference whether you live in a big or small city.

Why? You have to realise that not everyone enjoys England being so colourful.

Also just because you are black it doesn’t mean you have to speak in a certain way, it just perpetuates stereotypes, which are generally negative, we speak English in England and seeing my language completely butchered isn't nice and looks pretty common uneducated.

You've known him 6 weeks though ?

I do find it a bit strange that the Polish Lady just came up to the Granny's and said that to them, not even knowing them ? I just find it a little hard to believe.

What did they reply as someone must have translated what she said in Polish ?

:)

I'd sayit's much worse in Poland then it is in the western Europe.

I wouldn't say that. I don't know about the entire western Europe but I lived
in Ireland for 3 years and I have to say that the attitude of Irish towards black
people is a disgrace. I mean, every second taxi driver was ranting about "the blacks",
even some of the educated people made racist comments about them and I
saw some young fella passing a black woman on the street and spitting in her face!
I asked him, why did he do it and I only got my share of abuse.
Some black American actress was verbally abused by Irish teenagers while
doing shopping in Dublin and she swore never to come back to Ireland etc. etc.

Myself, I've never encountered any abuse because of my nationality (on the
contrary, people I met were very friendly) and I don't want to generalize but
I think that the overall attitude of Irish towards black people is much worse
than it is in Poland.

I'm sure that if I were kissing with my bf in some places full of people

Well and that also depends what type of kissing are you talking about.. there is a kiss and there is a KISS, snuggling and french kissing is looked at as unproper in every place by most of the people.

Torq

It's a pretty casual thing to hear about hooligans throwing bananas at football players with black skin in here. I live in quite a big city and from conversations with younger people I have to say the idea of multiculturalism is a pretty unknown concept to them. It's even worse in the countryside..

Why dont you try writing it in English instead of ghetto, maybe it isnt a race issue but by the way you talk and present yourself?????

If you came up to me talking like the way you write, I`d tell you to F off myself:)

maybe it isnt a race issue

Unfortunately, more the older generation in London, are fairly racist. Some of them do come out with a nasty comment right in front of mixed couples........:(

I wondered if the granny's stuck up for her though ? Because that is all you would need to know really ! I think kissing in the street when you are with older members of his family could be seen to be a bit disrespectful and I wouldn't do it.

That aint too cool, You would get your ass kicked in Chicago quick if you went around saying things like that.
Maybe down in the southern states those rednecks will never change.

I wondered if the granny's stuck up for her though

To tell you the truth, I couldnt even get through half the post:)

That aint too cool,

It isn't is it ! Not in this day and age, but am sure this will change over the years now. It's illegal to do that here too !

What surprises me is this ! Why would they tell her what this other woman allegedly said to them. Because they knew it would be very upsetting. So why did they not just say, she was moaning about something else ?

That is what appears strange really. You would have thought her boyfriend would be very protective towards her so he wouldn't have told her because the granny's couldn't really speak much English ?

To tell you the truth, I couldnt ever get through half the post:)

Lol :)

I read it quite well but then we are English here <just joking >

what a bunch of hateful comments, have eny of you ask her about age?, could be 20 -22, of course not a posh school but normal( easy going ) present education.

sorry for patronising but some of you guys should think twice before putting a shite on the forum.

Its strange that people who have no idea who I am or
what I'm like can just jump into conclusions.

Guys I'm perfectly capable of speaking and writing "proper"
English. Infact, I don't speak with a ghetto accent and I don't have
a ghetto style at all. I don't dress ghetto, don't live in the ghetto,
don't walk ghetto, don't listen to ghetto music, I'm just a simple
black girl from Africa raised in Paris ok? Its just that when I type
on the net or chat, I abbreviate my words just like everyone else.
I'm a very well educated person thank u
very much! Don't be so derogatory! And don't use nigga freely if you're
white because somebody's going to get hurt real bad one day :-p

Ma boyfriend translated to me but I already caught the gist of what she
was saying because she was throwing me evil glances.

The kind of kiss in question was just gentle kisses on the cheeks and on
the lips. We weren't smooching or anything.
I would't even let him kiss me under normal circumstances in the presence of
his family because he would't be able to do that with my family
but he assured me that his family's not like that and I caught what he
meant after spending a few hours with them.
Besides he was kissing me and not the other way around...
doesn't really matter anyway, the fact is that he was with a black woman
and she was not at all pleased with that.

They told her to mind her business and then she said in London there's
freedom of speech and then she went quiet.

This really did happen guys come on! Why would I make it up?
I may not speak Polish but I'm very good at reading
body language and I already knew she had a problem with him being with me
even before he translated it. And he refused to translate it to me immediately
because he didn't want me to get upset on the bus there with his grandparents
present and stuff. He translated to me after and I did get upset but oh well
life goes on. I'm black...and so what now?

McCoy, dude I am black! AND HELLA PROUD TOO!

Why are you proud about being black? Is this something you did to your skin, or did you just happen to be born black. I'm white, and glad, but proud?

As others pointed out, your English is just terrible pose and enforces stereotypes. If your manner of being is similar to your manner of speaking you may have real problems in getting people's sympathy.

posts. I'm proud, glad. happy. joyous....use whatever adjective
you want, I'm black period!

don't comment on my thread. you're highly insultive.

I'd say your English is "insultive" to the native speakers of the language. Just read their comments. If you expect respect, you need to show it too.

Is this coming from someone whose first language isn't even English?
And if English is your first language I didn't know there was a rule on this
forum that said no abbreviation or spelling words as you want them as long
as you can be understood...Is there a rule like that? If there is then I'll write
out all my sentences from now on (which I'm doing write now if you care to
notice anything good around you)
Seriously mate, if you think you can speak or write better
English than me then we can put that to the test.
Again, stop acting like you know who I am. You don't know a thing!

Your yourself are proud to be Polish, aren't you? Is being Polish something you did to yourself or did you just happen to be born Polish? One would have to assume that if you look down on black pride you also look down on Polish pride. Or is it just that you apply one rule to whites and another to untermenschen?

Yes, it is.

It's not about the forum's rules, but about the rules of respect. You demand it yourself. Be worth it first.

Seriously mate, if you think you can speak or write better
English than me then we can put that to the test.

You already failed a few.

Again, stop acting like you know who I am. You don't know a thing!

I have no idea who you are. I only know that through your manner of writing you are working very hard on presenting yourself as a "ghetto nigga". This was noticed by others here too.

Your yourself are proud to be Polish, aren't you? Is being Polish something you did to yourself or did you just happen to be born Polish?

I am proud for whatever my efforts were/are in preserving what is understood as Polish. That is not something that happens by just being born.

One would have to assume that if you look down on black pride you also look down on Polish pride. Or is it just that you apply one rule to whites and another to untermenschen?

The pride of being white is as silly as the pride of being black. There is one difference though - the proudly white crowd is automatically labeled as racists.

As for the Untermensch allusion, once you start being a bit more objective, and stop bashing Poles based on anegdotal stories and because of your innate hatred toward the Polish nation, then you may have a case. For now, first live what you preach.

Unfortunately, not knowing about a topic rarely prevents people from lecturing others on this forum. Try not to be offended by the attitude you get from Poles in the Uk - it's not so much that they are foaming racists but rather that they find it difficult to hide their amazement when they see anyone who isn't a white, Polish catholic around their age and income level.

To a Pole, getting on a bus in the UK is the start of a voyage : a journey of personal discovery as well as to Lidl to get their shopping. Some of them just can't handle the culture shock.

Is being Polish something you did to yourself or did you just happen to be born Polish?

Hear hear. I had to to jump through all sorts of hoops for my citizenship. Some people had it easy.

I wasn't tryna present maself as a "ghetto" anything. I'm far from
being that. That's just ma manner of typing when on the net

so deragatory? I think you're full of yourself z darius and have a serious
psychological problem. Consider a check up! :p

So pride in being Polish is a good thing but pride in colour is silly. That makes perfect sense.

As for the Untermensch allusion, once you start being a bit more objective, and stop bashing Poles based on anegdotal stories and because of your innate hatred toward the Polish nation, then you may have a case. For now, first live what you preach.

As I have stated many times, I have no hatred for the Polish nation. I would not choose to live in a nation which I hate, would I? Do I live what I preach? Well I certainly don't take any pride in my skin colour or in any of my nationalities. As for "anegdotal stories", I am more than slightly baffled as to what an anegdote might be. If you are perchance referring to what I have seen and experienced in Poland, I would have to observe that my statements will have considerably more weight behind them than yours: I have lived all but one of the last 15 years in Poland. How many days in the last 15 years have you spent in Poland?
