Hi,

Don't know where to start, hopefully some of you could help me out. I would like to get access to more english TV channels at our appartment. Most of the channels from our satellite disk seems to be german (astra 1/2 etc.). Sky and other english speeking channels seems to be blocked (requires a card) but from where can I buy such a viewing card / or get access to these channels.

Cyfra doensn't seem to have Sky channels in their package. Is there any other service provider? Or any other channels available in english that would show the normal american shows... not dubbed to any languagel. :-)

Cheers,
Selina

1. you will need a bigger dish
2. you will only get sky news
3. you will need someone to set it for you

4. canal+ programmes are in english.... just hit the language button.

Please give examples of the type of programmes you'd like to see. Then we might be able to help more.

:-)

I would like to see the american shows, like Lost, 24, Prison Break, Ugly Betty, ER etc. I wish Germans would get rid of the dubbing and go for subtitles. But, I assume that won't happen in any near future.

And I'm really beginner with the satellite channels. :-)

Cheers,
Selina

Hi Selina,

I looked also when arrived in Wroclaw, and i don't think there is much available in the form of tv shows coming in. Like Mr.W said, canal+ and BBC1, and maybe 2 other channels are available, if you happen to find more let me know too.

You can try UPC, they also have BBC Prime.

Alternatively you can get a Sky Box from the UK and a freeview card. You pay 20 GPB as a one off. However, you will not be able to receive BBC, ITV etc. unless you have a 2m dish in your garden. It is a bit of a hassle to activate the card as you have do do this by telephone and you're not supposed to use Sky outside of the UK but perhaps a family member can help you. We had a friend calling sky and he was on the phone to us at the same time as Sky asks for codes etc. Very stupid :(

You will receive channel 4, five tv, sky news, euronews and some documentary channels like travel channel etc. And all the shopping channels :((
We have the skybox and this card and just a normal small satellite dish on our roof.

There is a place in Warsaw that sells these Sky Freeview cards but without the Sky box you can't use this card.

What about the HBO channels that cyfra+ offers. Can they be watched without dubbing?

There is an option if you have good internet speed, go to TV Links and you can watch all of the USA and alot of British films TV shows. Another site is the OVGuide, which lists all the sites that stream films and TV shows. Sorry Polish people they are only in English, but there must be some Polish sites that do the same :O)
P.S. Sorry I forgot to say they are all free as well...

And there are other ways to watch the TV on the internet, which I do alot through using software like SopCast, where you can watch alot of football matches live and other things.

Thread attached on merging:
Television

What would be the cost involved in getting a TV with some english channels like CNN, BBC or CNBC; Can the TV work with just antenna in Poland or a set-top box is needed? How expensive would it be to get just some basic english channels. I am at Gniew.

Thanks.

Try ovguide.com I live by it. you can stream and download pretty much any movie or tv show you little heart desires. Be careful. It's addicting! Oh, and it's free! You will want to have a decent internet connection.

Happy watching!

If you download films or series, you can view them on your tv using a video-card with tv-out.
