We have hundreds of thousands of Polish people in Ireland. They are all very welcome and we are delighted they are here.

So guys, why not a "Polonia - Ireland" section? Ireland is not part of the UK, it is a separate country. It has been a Republic now for a long time. Like Poland, our country has struggled for many years to be independent and to take control of our own destiny. So please Mr. Administrator, give us our own section for the thousands of Polish people that are in Ireland and respect us as our own sovereign country.

But according to Wikipedia there are only about 63K of Poles living in Ireland. Compared to other countries, that's not that many. If we wanted to list all countries the page would be very long....

Babylon means the republic of Ireland. Northern Ireland is a part of UK. The republic of Ireland is a different country.

So wot...Wikipedia...is always correct?

Our small county has approx 1600 Polish people.....if we extrapolate that to the whole of the Island.......there are around....163,000........!!!

Compared to the UK......and per head of population, Ireland proportionally, has welcomed 20 times that the UK has.........so you are not comparing like with like!

I think a Polonia-Ireland section is both warranted......and fair.

Groups of islands often have a name with the suffix -nesia.
My favourite example is Macaronesia (Madeira, Azores, Canaries).
I do not know of such a name for this northwest corner of Europe that keeps everyone in Britain and Ireland happy.

I know :)

I was merely pointing out that it is part of the UK but not GB (some people may not have known this and it may have interested them :)

If a section was called 'Polonia - Ireland', would it show up in web-searches and thererfore possibly bring more people in?

Other sources would estimate that there are more like 100k Polish living in Ireland. From being in Poland, there is a lot of interest from Polish about living and working in Ireland.

Scotland, England, Wales make up the United Kingdom.

The Republic of Ireland is a totally separate country. You might as well be saying the "USA & Ireland". Or similarly, it would be like including Poland under a heading for Germany which I dont think would go down very well. Both are sovereign and independent countries. If we cannot have our own section, include us in Other Countries, if you really have to. But please not part of the UK. This is just incorrect.

But I hope you will give us a separate section for Ireland. Can I also recommend some good websites for Polish interested in Ireland, vaveeva.com and myireland.pl.

Polonia - Northamptonshire
Polonia - Caithness & Sutherland
Polonia - Clackmannanshire
Polonia - County Mayo
Polonia - St. Kilda

The least sensible so far.

Great Britain is only the name of an island now (compromsing of Scotland/England/Wales), within the United Kingdom (which of course includes Northern Ireland). Originally Scotland/England were the only members Great Britain. It became the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Ireland somewhere along the line and then the United Kingdom of Great Britain of Northern Ireland when the Republic of Ireland split away (dates fail me).

Therefore, it's not part of GB because GB is just an island within a country - really :)

I dont want to make a big deal about this. Its just that I believe in respecting other peoples and their cultures and traditions. In Ireland, we welcome hundreds of thousands of immigrants in last few years when other countries did not open their borders.

I am just asking that the Republic of Ireland be given the respect it deserves like any other country and not including it in a category for UK which is wrong. I believe the people of Ireland have earned the right to be recognised.

Imagine the following heading:

Polonia Germany - Including discussions on UK, Poland and Germany
Polonia USA - Including discussions on USA & Canada

A lot of people would not be very happy with that. Similarly, as an Irishman, I think Ireland should be represented correctly in the forum and to make the relevant change is only fair and appropriate. Mr. Administrator, I ask you to review again and to please make appropriate changes.
