Last name Jaques or Jacques

adidway   May 19, 06, 20:56 /  #
My great grand parents were polish and had the last name Jaques or Jacques. They were Roman Catholic and immigrated to New York, lived in The Bronx in the early 1900's. I looked at the Ellis Island website and found one listing For Jaques from Lithuania via France. Any info on name changes and possible origins would be greatly appreciated.

I think "Jaques" means "Jack" or "Jacek" in Polish..

if it was pronounced "Jacques" the spelling was most probably "Żak".
