nhe 12 Jan 2007 / #1What would the name Wazil be in English?I'm doing research on my fathers side of the family and came across the name Wazil and then the trail kind of dies there.. so I'm wondering what the English version of that name might be?? I ran into a simular situation with another family members name being Ludwiga and that turned out to be Louise.. and the trail picked up with that so I'm hoping this time the same will happen. Thanks so much for your help!Have a great day!Niki :)
Angela777 13 Jan 2007 / #2Makes me think of Wassily Kandinsky and I think the Slavic version is Vasily and I just googled for it and a site called thinkbabynames (but I am not allowed to post a link here, the site tells me), says that equates to Basil.
Koach 16 | 128 13 Jan 2007 / #3I think you are right. My Lemko great-grandfather was Wasyl, but people outside the family called him Basil. It's probably the same for Wazil.
krysia 23 | 3,058 13 Jan 2007 / #5Yes, Wasil links to Basil. Other forms: Vasileios, Vasilis, Vaso, Vasos, Vasya, Wassily, Bazyli, Basilio, Basile, Basilius
OP nhe 13 Jan 2007 / #6Thanks everyone! As soon as I read Basil.. I knew that had to be it.. two generations down they named their son Basil so I'm going to go with that! Hopefully now I'll find something! Thanks so much!Niki
