Where I can practice speaking Polish?

Spot   Sep 21, 06, 22:11 /  #
I'm just starting to learn Polish, my Mother speaks it, but never taught it to us. I can sit there and listen all day, but any ideas where I can practice speaking? Suggestions?

I think you won't find a better teacher than your mother. If you've been listening to her speaking Polish, I'm sure you understand most of it. Why don't you try to talk to her in Polish? Regarding writing suggestions or translations I'm sure you'll find help on these forums when needed.

You can probably meet up with a Polish girl.

I would love to meet up with a Polish girl, but there aren't many about.

My Mother claims to have forgotten most of it. Though I'm sure it would come back. She only spoke it to my Grandparents.

Welcome Jan
From the way you write you are doing very well. I know speaking is different but you will catch on. My cousin told me he watched some of the childrens programs like Sesame Street and he said it helped him.

Welcome Jan.
Cartoons are great for learning. I watched a lot of them in the early 80-s. I loved Tom and Jerry Listen to radio talk shows. Anything can help, if you really, really want to learn.

I listen to my polish friends and watch polish tv at their houses here in Doncaster UK ... when i move within the area(just split up from partner of 4yrs need to move out the house we owned together -- its a nightmare living with the Ex!) i will be investing in polish tv channels via satiellite here in the Uk to help me learn. But i love listening to them and trying to pick out key words as these are the ones that stay in your mind the most .... also i am learning one evening a week at college here in Doncaster the language -- im taught along with 20 other british people of all walks of life and ages the polish language by a 21 year old polish female from krakow. I started the classes on the first week in november and i finish them in the 2nd week in july next year!!
also i listen to various polish artists and music this helps as well and it is found that listening to another language in the form of music helps you remember and learn better!
