History keeps us divided

I was just pondering the notion, but its true..and the truth is, we dont know how to avoid it.. everything in our lives requires some knowledge of history, and every day we make history.. yesterdays news was history and what we know, how far back we can actually find evidence as to how long weve been fighting.. why why are we trying to keep this alive? we should be teaching for today. teaching equality.. learning about each nations good and not evil.

But I also agree with Patrycja, that we should let go of the hostilities. Last year a local methodist minister, invited 3 German women who were born just after the war, but now lived in england to talk about their experiences. I went to that talk and it was very interesting to hear their story, there was an old man who had survived Auschwitz there and he had questions he wanted to ask them. One of the women knew nothing about the holocaust until a lesson at school when she was 14, she ran home in tears afterwards, and started shouting at her parents for keeping it a secret from her. We should listen to each other more.

This is interesting. because I bet this happened more then once.. some sheltered from the truth.. some scared if they talked the truth they would be killed.. We learn about this. but what are we doing to teach that it is wrong.. wrong to form opinions of hatred.. not everything written in a history book is the whole story. its basic facts.. but should basic facts tell so much about what the other guy did and not the whole history as it happened? each side has its own history. so we never really learn it all. because there is too much.

If course when they were older and knew more they then questioned their parents, the point is, it wasn't easy for a lot of ordinary people living in Hitler's Germany. I think we need to understand these things in order to move on.
