Are there, aside from Ireland and the UK that Polish are immigrating too in large
numbers?

How well are these other countries receiving them?

I know for sure the USA & Canada. Because for a couple of years Poles haven't been eligible to obtain a green card because of the huge influx of Poles.

As far as other countries in Europe.. only the UK & Ireland have fully opened their borders for Eastern-european workers. But other countries have said they will in the future.. that should get Poles moving again

these destinations from Poles are not that popular anymore

Poles prefer to go to Ireland and England because they will make more $$$ than in U.S.A or Canada and they are closer to home.

You're absolutely correct Witek, it's much easier & better for Poles to go work in the UK/Ireland, more bucks, closer to home & more work. But the USA still remain a popular destination because of "American Dream" & the big Polish community over there

I know cause I applied for a green card to America, I have the Belgian citizenship but they won't allow me to participate because I was born in Poland. :(

Qualification to apply for DV Lottery

* Not all countries , citizens are allowed.
Citizen from certain countries who has already sent more then 50,000 immigrants (green cards holders) in last 5 years.

For DV-2007, natives of the following countries are not eligible to apply because they sent a total of more than 50,000 immigrants to the U.S. in the previous five years:

CANADA, CHINA (mainland-born), COLOMBIA, DOMINICAN REPUBLIC, EL SALVADOR, HAITI, INDIA, JAMAICA, MEXICO, PAKISTAN, PHILIPPINES, POLAND, RUSSIA, SOUTH KOREA, UNITED KINGDOM (except Northern Ireland) and its dependent territories, and VIETNAM. Persons born in Hong Kong SAR, Macau SAR and Taiwan are eligible.

i've met many Polish people in Chicago who are returing to Poland to invest $$$ or going to Ireland to work construction for better wages.

Also Poles are legal in Ireland and England and they can fly from London to Warsaw for the weekend.

I agree, they are far better off in Ireland/England! I don't understand why so many Poles still move to the USA myself.. as you can easily find better paid jobs in the rest of Europe

btw they are legal with a green card

Poles go ton European Countries becouse they can legally work there but as far as i learn from newspapers they are not always treated fair in this countries. That`s why living in Canada or the USA is better for us.This are countries that have built its succesfull economies by attracting immigrants.nobody in those countries show them that they are not welcome (beside governments pretending they are fighting with illigal immigration).people on the street will not tell you that you should go back to Poland and stop stealing emglishman job.Few weeks ago Artur Boruc saved 9 month pregnant polish girl who was bitten by people on the street of Edinbourgh. It doesn`t happen in Canada or US.Of course there are some robberys but it has nothing incommon with nationalism.

Incorrect....only 3 countries gave permission to work, the two above plus Denmark.

They have to wait for another period before they can legally work in the rest iof the EU.....not sure how long, but they can visitthe other EU states, many then stay and work but they aren't protected by law in those countries.

Sure, but equally in Ireland East Europeans have been increasingly involved in crime, its a two way street.

ive Not witnessed anything like what has happened above with the pregnant girl
not to say things cant happen, in any " big Move" its probablly best to move in
more suburban areas, even apts..

Where I live, crime is low, the biggest thing to happen ( neighborhood gawk show)
is maybe someone had domestic fight wife and hubby get drunk and she throws
something at him in turn he ends up with stiches or taken away by police, or

someone broke a window and stole cds out of a car. or got into the garage, but neighbors seen the perpetrator and call police and the guy was caught.

yes ocasionally, someone is found they have been stabbed, or killed, usually this is
big news, front page for us, because this is not typical of our area..and usually its
drugs involved..

Canada I couldnt tell you about.my friend who lives in London, she always told me
good things about Canada, made me even want to move there :)

I know someone who recently from Poland ( her name is Gosia) I think I will ask
her if she had any problems in the beginning with people calling her names. I really
doubt it, because now a days people accept more, I think right now the focus
is on the immigrants from mexico, south America. They bring with them heavy drugs
into America, I think if a man or woman wants to come, to find a job, improve then
yes, but smuggling drugs etc, stay in your own F-up country.

and no, there is no double standards here again, who would want to allow someone
I dont care what color you are into my country and kill my children and other children
with drugs. you dont belong in any country if you sell drugs to children and are
a sicko like that..

As far as I know poles can legally work in UK,Ireland Sweden,Holland,Italy ,Spain,Portugal and some other countries. It is easy to get work permit in some occupations (medical) in Norway. It is very easy to get information about it on the internet or the polish Employment Office (Urzad zatrudnienia). About attitude towards iillegal immigrants in North America .Everyone in Canada or in USA is an immigrant.Even Indians came from another continent in the past centuries.Canadian attitude is to built multicultural society where everyone can preserve traditions and own culture and heritage. There is no problem about people of other race or nation.Even Palestinian and Jewish can live here in peace, serbs and people from bosna.Canadian authorities officcially fight with illegal immigrants but reality is that it tolerate it because of the unfilled jobs especiallly in constraction industry. The position of the government and people in Canada is that immigrants are very dynamic people and at the beginning they use social help but later they do create jobs for themself and for canadians.Thats why there is no attacks on new immigrants.Of course there is some criminal activities like everywhere in the world but they are not related to nacionalism and no one sais that someone is stealing his job place. Canada accepts ca.250 thousends immigrants annually. They stimulate economical growth for canada. Each immigrant creats a big demand for goods from a dish ,car and place of living. This way there is a big construction boom in Canada. It is like crating a new city populated by quarter of a milion people. The same do immigrants in UK but the mentality of the people in UK is different.Beside during soccer games the english hooligans attac everyone and do demages. In North America fans just get to their cars and the only problem they create is the traffic congestions.

Guys...it appears we are ALL not quite correct....please read said EU document........

First phase

During the first phase, three EU-15 Member States (Ireland, Sweden and the United Kingdom) liberalised access to their labour markets under national law. The United Kingdom, however, adopted a mandatory Worker's Registration Scheme. Under this scheme workers from the EU-8 Member States must register with the UK Home Office within 30 days of starting their employment in the UK.

There are not much I think. Most go to Sweden,Denmark and Norway which is understandable because they are nearer. So it is not only language.

Those two Finnish forums in Polish, so you might read something about experiences there:

witek, I have no problem with the average immigrant , everyone is welcome, but
I dont welcome those who bring with them illegal drugs, why would anyone?

And they dont care whose children die from it, as long as they have their money,
so no, not every idiot is welcome, as to be careful to not generalize, I said those
who bring drugs, I dont think they are picking fruit for me to eat.. do you?

If Finnish language wouldn't be so horribly hard (from my point of view), I'd move to Finland for a while :)
