Hello, fellow forum members! (Witajcie, drogich forumniczow!)

Who do you think will be the one to succeed the Brothers Kaczynski?? I'm not clear who Donald Tusk really is, or what he stands for.

One brother (Jaroslaw Kaczynski - the former prime minister) has already been succeeded by D. Tusk.

Donald Tusk is PO leader; liberal guy as it seems. He is popular especially among young, educated Poles from big cities and Polish immigrants in Europe.

Tusk has very interesting biography. He is from very poor family his father died when he was 14. He worked as lauborer. He joined opposition and was fighting against commie regime.

When we compare Kaczynski biography ... he is so little boy... When Tusk was taking part of what happened in '81. Kacz. decided to stay home and study ... marksist law... because he have choosen one of the most hated by oppositionist specialization on University ... no comment.

Dmowski has much bigger worth as far as political negotiations after WWI are concentrated. About Polish -Soviet war, Pilsudski role is just a myth. Do you heard about general Rozwadowski?

What a biased CV is this? I might not agree with JK on many issues but I don't question his past in opposition. Try to be at least a bit objective and not like some hardcore party apparatchick.

Oh yes, when Kacz. joined opposition ? He was really little boy there. Now he wants to be first anty-commie. When Tusk risked everything in '81 Kaczysnki prefered to stay at home, he was from good family, he had to study. Now he is first anti-commie. Just think why young people havent bought him ... And they prefere Tusk, who is form poor family, who worked as lauborer for his studies ... and Tusk is liberal :)

Tusk is OK

Tusk is severly lacking in charisma, and will be found out like Buzek was. I have met Buzek, and he controlled a thousand non partisan people in the palm of his hand.
That's how difficult politcs is, and that's why the twins have been successful although thjey have no policies apart from isolationism.
It is so much easier to destroy than build, which is why so many swallowed the PIS rhetoric of "let's get them." I was here in communism - a mate was bull shiting about a Hyandai car dealership in the city - I'd had a few and knew how to deal with a building that shouldn't be there - but he was shocked and frightened. I was serious and would have gladly acted as he felt stitched up by the guy in question........
Point -then, 20 years ago was the time to act - but Poland was shafted by the weak good christian Mazowiecki. Who I have absolutely no time for. Then was the time to break the undertaking and arrest the communists and strip them of any position and "their" wealth. Any time afterwards was palpably too late. The guy with the thick eyebrows and Nowy Swiat were correct
Under Tusk a lot of people who can, will get very very rich. I for one will be envious, but maybe some good will come of it for Poland. But Tusk has to help small businesses
which were being f****d by those socialist twins. And next, in my view, you should open the borders to more of Poland's "enemies" from the East, just as the "West" is opening it's borders.
Aren't politics and the shifting tide ever so simple in actual fact?

Tusk was a no-name at that time, he could risk everything because he had nothing.

If you suggest that all people who studied law are communists this is absolutely silly and you chose to target this particular group only because this fits you at the moment. How many lawyers in PO educated at that time? Maybe none?!

If Kaczynski would use his skills to serve the regime against the nation then your complains would be justified but you have no such evidence.

Kaczynski was, not without reason the main adviser of Walesa and chief of his presidential bureau.

I wanted to show that Tuski and PO have roots in Solidarity in anty-commie opposition. Accusing them of being "red" isnt ok. Our society is mature enought to choose their leaderes form people who were on right side in the past.

who Donald Tusk really is,

I heard him speaking on a polish radio station and he pronounces "r' in a funny way...did he grow up around the eastern border in Poland?
I heard only much, much older people saying 'r' this way...the ones who were moved from the Russian territories to the western Poland after the war. My two brothers in-laws spoke that way...well, just curious...I don't know him and i don't really know what he stands for...

Odd name his, "Donald Tusk". Is he all Polish, or did his presumably modish parents want him to have a non-Polish first name? "Tusk" sounds almost Cashubian!

It seems this Tusk is a Kashubian...from the small amount of information I have read, it seems the Kashubians are an old Slavic tribe who maintain their ethnicity within Poland,
but are not in conflict with the Polish people...Maybe someone could comment more on the Kashubians and their history...also, if this Tusk was a an admirer of Josef Pilsudski, I think this is a good thing and would be a plus as far his presidential viewpoint.

Kashubians (Kashubian: Kaszëbi; Polish: Kaszubi; German: Kaschuben), also called Kassubians or Cassubians, are a West Slavic ethnic group of north-central Poland.

I think that it was risky thing to writte about Pilsudski in communism times, and I would rather consider this fact as symbol of resistance against commies.

But what about Tusk's politics? What impact is he having on Poland and its role in the EU?
That's what matters. :)
