Former President Boris Yeltsin, who engineered the final collapse of the Soviet Union and pushed Russia to embrace democracy and a market economy, died Monday. He was 76.

He had his weaknesses but he listened to people
A significant man nevertheless

I donīt know if he ever did any threats to any of the former ex-soviet countries or Poland ?
Dissolution of SU was quite non-violent which was good.

I suppose Jelcyn at least didn't mind Poland and Poles. But unfortunately he left a former KGB officer as his 'heir'. I said it before on this forum, but I'll repeat it - as long as a KGBist will be Russian president, there won't be partnership between Russia and Poland (however Poland has its sins as well).

Of what interest may this guy's death be to the Poles? I can't see any.

Besides, he was a big time media creation; the hacks in America, Britain, France, Germany, etc. portrayed him as such an amicable, good-hearted, human figure.

But was he really such?

Think, for example, about the Chechnya war and Russki atrocities there.

So I'm not sure if some of the RIP wishes will in his case have the desired effect.

No, perhaps he was not a perfect man or a perfect leader. But he brought about positive changes which were long overdue. Progress seldom moves forward in a straight line. We take the bad with the good and keep moving forward. I can appreciate the good that resulted from him, even if there were awful things that also resulted from him.

Yeltsin was product of specific transition period of Russian society.

Also, he was clown and drunken puppet of governments from false West.

We need to have good hope that Slavic world can found strength to consolidate and progress, on behalf of all humankind. If united in free democratic society, Slavs have all prerogatives for that- great amount of resources, people- biological potential, beautiful and rich culture with diverse experiences…

I don't believe that that view is shared by most of the slavic countires, since most (if not all of them) have an independant governments and borders.
Just an observation.

independant governments and borders

he, he, he

You realy think so?

Today THEY deal with Serbia, tomorrow with Russia. Then with Slovenia, Slovakia, Poland, etc. They are greedy, you know.

Listen. Only united Slavs has chance to survive as Slavs. That`s how it is in this beautiful but cruel world.

But, I (and many others) don`t suggest unity at all costs. No, I would only kindly ask that Slavdom get chance from Slavs, before we finaly fall in total oblivion.

Only chance we need and, if we are worth we will create strong, democratic, prosperious and secure Slavic Union, with good standard of living. That will be state of free individuals,...
