Im thinking about moving to Poland and need advice on teaching english

I'm sure this has been asked a zillion times, but can anyone tell me how easy it is to find work as an English teacher in Poland (are any towns/cities easier than others?) and what is the average wage? is it better to go freelance or work for a company.. and do you need a TEFL or is it enough to have a degree and some experience? Is this the best paid work for a non Polish speaking foreigner? any advice welcome. thanks.

lol - how many times have these questions been asked and answered! the ease of finding work largely depends on the location and time of year larger cities will probably have more schools - smaller cities will probably have fewer native speakers the average wage will vary depending on location but for a full working week [25 hrs?contact time] you will earn enough to live on... with reletive comfort probably best to get some hours with a school and then build freelance work as you find your feet a TEFL/TESOL qualification will open doors but is not 1OO% needed - experience will also help best paid work for a non polish speaking foreigner its not but probably the easiest to get started

thanks wroclaw..the main problem is that I work in the charity sector and prior to that all my experience has been public sector, so dont really want to go too corporate.. but may be inevitable I fear. I have some experience of teaching english in multi-nationals, but a while ago, its not exactly my dream job , merely something to do whilst looking for a proper job. I currently work in international development as a Programme Director, so I do have some skills, but obviously cant get work in this field in Poland.. so have to think about how I can best transfer my knowledge to adapt it to another field.. probably something like Management consultancy, change management or project management would be about as close as it gets to what I currently do. My partner has no contacts in Poland, he needs to find a job himself and doesnt know anything about international type jobs. I will take the above advice and check out some multi-nationals.. not sure if Im going to move or not yet, just trying to work out if I could be better off than living in London, which bleeds you dry.

I'm in Warsaw at the moment, should be flying back to Heathrow tomorrow at 7.30am, but have been emailed and txted by BA that my flight is cancelled !! Where in Lodon are you Sapphire ? The best teaching job would be within a multi-national.......teaching members of staff. Two or three hours of such work would give you an ordinary, Polish, day's pay.

Fox, If you learn Polish enough to communicate then you should find a quite good job without much problems.

Then tell them or their head office how you would be useful. very much so, but if you move to poland and want a quick and ready income then teaching english is probably your best bet learning polish well enough to communicate and looking for better opportunities takes time - if you can afford the luxery of this then great, if not then teaching english is a good way to fill it some people even make a career out of it - brilliant
