TESOL in Poland & other things

Guest   May 1, 06, 23:04 /  #
Hello, I was in Szczecin last month, to visit a friend but we have fallen apart. I had a wonderful time. I want to go back, and teach english there or somewhere in Poland. Just fly by the seat of my pants.

I want to rent an apartment, do i need any special permits?
I would also like to buy a motorbike or car to get around. What kind of regulations are there regarding a non citizen purchasing and insurance?

I'm planning to fill up my bank acct before leaving so i have a safety net.

I'm sure i will have more questions as they come to mind.
Any help is appriciated. Thanks!!!!

Good to like Szczecin -- make sure to visit Gdansk too smile.

I don't think you would need any special permits to rent an apartment -- I think you can arrange payment in advance (let's say a week in advance) and you'll be fine.

I don't think the streets are very good so I'd suggest to buy a car (think about winter too smile. I'm not sure about regulations -- but I'm almost positive they are the same as for all other EU citizens. The best would be to go to the city and find a large insurance location where you're likely to find a person who speaks English well and will find out.

Regarding credit cards, I think the banking system in Poland is quite well-developed. So you can open an account in Zlotych or Euro/USD; if you know Polish, you can use online banking too. Again, find a well-known bank in the city and you'll learn more.

Good luck!

i plan to take 1 -2 years in Poland. I am from Canada. I was also wondering what kind of visas i would need for working there. I know there is plenty of under the table tutoring jobs, but if i was to teach in a school, i need to be legit.

I will have more questions as they come to mind. Thanks smile
