Fireworks! Where to buy them in Poland (3-city)?

Only another couple of weeks of it to go!

I tried to organize an English culture week in my home town centralized around bonfire night as a theme, but we had little interest and many problems with the local Police in getting permission to let off fireworks, so we just gave up in the end :(

Be carefull you don,t get the anti terrorist units decending on your house...! Near where i live there is a factory making fireworks , but i don,t know if such places sell to the public....You have to be a bit carefull with this , as it may be illegal to set off fireworks even in your own grounds , as it is in UK , but the police turn a blind eye on bonfire night in UK , and new year in Poland... The first thing is to check if you can buy fireworks before new year , then find out if you can set em off without going to jail.....nice idea if you can get away with it.....might be tempted to have a bonfire party at my farm....

This already sounds like more hassel than it's worth, lol. Next weeks thread, i got put in prison for setting off fireworks. How do i translate, 'let me out'. :)

Fire works are forbidden by law in Ireland but you can still buy them sometimes on the street. I think the Brits were afraid of any Paddy having too much gunpowder;) Isn't that what the whole thing is about anyway, Some Guy (appropriately named) unsuccessfully attempted to blow up the houses of parliament?. And youz celebrate it by rein acting his burning at the stake. Like the kids song "Guy, Guy, Guy, Kick him in the eye, Put him on the bonfire and there let him die" I am still like a kid at christmas when I see a firework shop.

I always wondered if we were celebrating the fact that Guy fawkes got killed for trying to blow up the government...or were we celebrating the fact he tried.....?

Strangely enough he was catholic and fighting against the government at the time, the school he went to refuse to acknowlege bonfire night, like most traditions people forget why they are and enjoy the excuse to drink mulled wine and eat toffee apples lol..oh lets not forget parkin and treackle toffee :) For us as kids it was an excuse to knick the HORRIBLE neighbours gates to burn ;-)

Be careful Griff :) A few years ago I was at a similar event in Sopot -- which included a van full of police arriving at the front door. A neighbour had reported our host for illegal fireworks and so the polis turned out in what looked to be close-to-full riot gear. Had to be talked down to the state where they realised they were dealing with a foreigner who hadn't the slightest idea he was breaking the law. I don't know how much bother it would be to get yourself a permit ... /c

A house in the mountains -or don't do it. I would - for the hell of it, or for my students, but for sure the Katowice police would bang me up. It's fine for noise pollution to go on day and night or for there to be fireworks for commercial reasons but I too can imagine that a little private party would not be a go. Simply because they (the bill) wouldn't understand the concept - a little like a vodka party bawling through the night on a quiet suburbam street in London would in no way be tolerated.
