you need a passport to get into the UK. You may be a resident in a EU country, but you are not a national so why should you be able to enter another EU country without a passport? Anyway in Britain you still need to show a passport.

hello all,

I got a doubt : If I am a student having temporary residence permit and if I wish to work for a company then what all possibilities are there for me so that I could do a white collar job..

Thanks in advance..

Thanks for the feedback..

But is there any kind of differentiation for the type of Karta pobytu like for students or for people working here.

OR is the karta pobytu considered same for every foreigner irrespective of his status..

So is it possible for me to do 30-40 hours full time white collar job ..

Thanks in advance..

WEll im sure all student cards differ. But from what i know is that all Kartu pobytu cards are the same and are only given to people that married polish people.

"I see ok so having a kartu pobytu i can go where i like in Shengan but not UK ?"

I'm not so sure. There was a case of some students from Turkey studying in Wroc³aw who wanted to visit some friends in Germany (and were told they could by some office in Wroc³aw) but they got into trouble when stopped at the German border. I don't know how it was resolved. My advice is be more cautious than you think you have to be (or should have to be) and ask for things in writing at consulates et al ahead of time.

But the UK is not part of Schengen (and wants nothing to do with it) so all EU citizens have to have a passport to get in AFAIK.

I recently went to Hungary (within Schengen) and was asked for my passport at the ticket desk (both ways) I don't know what they would have done had I offered my residence card.

And AFAIK there are two kinds of residence card. The first is temporary and you have to apply for a new one every couple of years (and they can say no). The second is permanent (something like a US green card) and you have to renew the card every ten years but it's an automatic renewel not an application.

Wrong. You can get in with Polish ID. I don't know about other members, but polish ID grants you access to all EU countries.

All that being part of the Schengen zone means is that you only have to show your passport/ID card when you enter it - there are no internal border checks within the zone (but they can do random checks). The UK is not part of the zone so you need to show your passport/ID when you fly to/from there, but the same forms of ID should be valid as for anywhere else in the EU (unless you've been banned from one of the member countries, of course).

i'm not Poles, and i have my Polish Residence, i'm travelling EU with Polish ID, but i also need my passport.. sometimes bit take time while passing boarder, but the rule is with Polish ID you can travel EU but don't forget to keep your passport with you.

but abt TURKEY nationality,i don't know...
like in DOHA, while u just landed, in the plane, kind of Police taking a white people, to check their document(in my opinion rough)..but that's how it is
