Actually I have a Canadian friend who is in the same position. He was married for five years to a Polish woman and she is now going for a divorce. Actually he has no idea what to do with the red tape (meldunek, work permit, karta pobytu) and gets conflicting information everywhere.
Długa 5 telling other things than his Gmina. Gmina tell other things than the lawyer..
And so on...
His employer already started to procedure to get him a work permit.

Thread attached on merging:
residency and marriage

Hi.
Still no clear answer. What happens,if a marriage to a Polish citizen breaks down before you are in Poland for two years, living on a temp residency card? Do you get kicked out (back to Canada)?Or do polish authorities let you stay til you get permanent residency and eventually citizenship?

I know a fellow english teacher whose marriage went sour within a year, he's been having a hard time justifying that, and I think his marriage was eventually considered a fraudand he was denied further long-term visas. he's still here though.

Just go back to your country and stop using marriage as an excuse.
If your marriage went bad, too bad, but stop wining about it, go back to where you came from and rebuild your life you had, if you don't want to, put some effort in the relationship, Polish girls have feelings too and are not the worst at all!
