Shattered dreams. Poland is more expensive to live than the UK.

Just a quick missive to say that pro rata Poland a more expensive country to live in than the UK. All those dreams of buying in with the mighty £ or $ are pipe dreams. Party is over. The recession is hitting the UK and although the Euro zone is more stable, the kick back in the UK will affect the Poles working in the UK. This intern will hit back in Poland.
Like I said Party is over.

I will never believe it. The day the UK is cheaper to live in, is the day i go back there. Simply enough, my wages over here go alot further than it does in Britain.

Well petrol cost the same in Poland and in the UK. Thats for one.

Depends on what u mean , Food is cheaper smokes are and booze unless your a fashion fruit who likes to waste his money on cloths then for sure its more exspensive here in the uk ' i find poland to be cheap it depends on what kind of lifestyle u wish to live , u whant fast cars and nike u have to pay for it the cost of living in the uk is unreal ,spent some time i poland recently and was shocked at how cheap it was .

Plus and even Tesco are reasonably priced. Poland is nice and cheap overall. Fruit and veg are usually cheap although I have seen weird fluctuations, e.g cauliflower prices.

The fact remains that, in the main, 425z³ will take u much further than 100 pounds.

Yes but there is just no comparison in the standard of food that you can get in Tescos here as compared to the UK. The other day I went out to buy some apples from Tescos and I returned with a bag and opened it, and out of 12 apples only 3 were not starting to rot or they were so bruised they were uneatable, and don't even start me on the meat.
You would have thought that a more affluent Polish society would control the standard of food in the shops, or is it a case of Polish people getting ripped off by these multi-national supermarkets in making a quick fast buck out of them?

They did it in the UK too, u know. There was a public outcry against Tesco for that and a book was written in the name of consumerism. Don't think for one moment that the Poles won't kick up a fuss too.

OK, but over the eight years that I have lived here I have seen a steady decline in the standard of supermarket based foods, it was even low in the first place.

Sorry I don't understand what this has to do with anything, with respect are you saying that just because the food comes from Ukraine that the Polish should accept a lower standard of food?

What supermarkets do you shop at in Poland? Tesco was, and is, one of the worst on offer - overpriced and badly supplied.
The Polish Tescos have absolutely nothing in common with the British ones, except ownership ;-)

Which is exactly my point, as the standard of food in Polish supermarkets is a lot lower than the UK ones, at least they were when I was in the Eastbourne two months ago. At least if the food is getting close to out of date they reduce it, here in Poland they leave it on the shelves until it rots.

Because it is better than at Lidl and Plus I guess. I haven't been dissatisfied with the standards at Tesco here.

But how about Geant, Auchan, Carrefour, to name just a few of the other foreign ones, or smaller chains like Bomi or Piotr and Pawe³?
IMHO, the Polish version of Tesco is only slightly better than Biedronka / Leader Price and suchlike.

Possibly because chains such as Tesco aren't so well established (yet) in Poland, and their branches are smaller in Poland. In the UK the little shops like greengrocers and butchers have been largely killed off now by the big supermarkets but it hasn't got to that stage in Poland.

Yeah Tesco isn't as good quality here as it is in the UK, although they have an up-market sister store - Savia - which stocks Tesco products but are pricier
