Are private abusive messages ever acceptable?

How do you deal with abusive messages?
I know we have a block option, but are private abusive messages ever acceptable?

If someone is being abusive towards you, then report them, pure and simple:)

no of course they're not acceptable, report it to admin if you're getting any!

Admin punished me by deleting most of my favourite threads. As if I hadn't punished myself enough already.
