Sounds plausible. Can anyone say if it is actually used in Poland?

Words used in Poland for the following -

Firewall,
Software bug

I think the Polish word for software is oprogramowanie.

It's probably not any help but "bug" (for computers) is błąd and "virus" is wirus.

It depends on what kind of language you mean, more official or colluquial (or nerd speak)
- in colloquial speech software is very common, but oprogramowanie is "more Polish"
- hardware can be used sometimes, but in this case the Polish words are advisede ("sprzęt" or adjective "sprzętowy")
- firewall in Win XP PL is called "zapora systemu Windows", so I guess "zapora" ("zapora przeciwogniowa" would be the direct translation of firewall, sometimes "zapora ogniowa", but generally only "zapora", the English term is also widely used)
- if by 'Computer crash' you mean the oparating system crashes (popular with MS Windows), then the verb is indeed "zawiesić się".

PolskaDoll:
zawieszać się?

that is correct.

Komputer mi się zawiesił.
(My computer has crashed)

It comes directly from the word 'zawiesić' (hang, suspend).

Hence the saying:
Prawdziwy programista wiesza się razem ze swoim komputerem.
(A real programmer hangs himself along with his computer)

I don't think Bondi knows what "pulpit" means in Polish, and takes for granted it has the same meaning as in English ("to preach from the pulpit"), but in Polish that particular piece of equipment is called "kazalnica" ;-p

Teaching of some skills between spouses is often a risky proposition, so my wife subsscribed to a Polish magazine called Komputer Swiat. So many terms Polish computer terms sound hilarious to me, even though in many cases, they are direct translations from English. Sometimes though, I have to ask about the context when my wife asks me about a meaning of a term she finds in there.
