There were Soviet installations in and around Wroclaw, Szczecin and Zielona Gora. The combined population of these areas was roughly 1 million. I wonder if Mr Hypki made comments about it then.
When Poland was a slave member of the Warsaw Pact, which was supposedly to its benefit, the Pact's plan to defend itself from any possible attack by NATO was to nuke Poland on the Vistula line. This would have contaminated the soil, water and air with nuclear pollution, killing some 10 to 15 million Poles in the process. That's how safe Poland was without US missiles in Poland.
