Hi there

I was just wondering, on which dates of the year do Poles have festivals or celebrate an occasion? ie. like thanks-giving in the US?

Thanks
Fusar

No, the Constitution was made just after the American one, it's the first Constitution in Europe and the second one in the world, in the 1790's.

The independence was recovered on November, 11 1918

Ruskis left in 1993. Yes, the last Soviet forces left this year. No special date we venerate.

Befor WWII celebrated two times. In communist period forbidden and persecuted.

The Constitution of May 3, 1791

The Constitution of May 3, 1791 is generally recognized as Europe's first and the world's second modern codified national constitution. The May 3rd Constitution was instituted as a "Government Act" (Polish: Ustawa rządowa) adopted on that date by the Sejm (parliament) of the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth.

Yes, All Saints Day I think. A very big thing in Poland, people go to the graves of deceased loved ones and light candles and such.
Here is a nice article on it.

I made the mistake of taking some comedy Halloween cakes to my Polish colleagues. They responded by telling me about 1 November and what they do on it. Talk about foot in mouth :(

Oh dear, people should have warned you about that in your thread about avoiding faux pas.

Bless you. You weren't to know that now were you!

I've been trying to call a business in Poland today and been getting annoyed because nobody answers the phone! Now I know why that is.

Why is this offensive? Halloween is on the day before. People get too easily offended over stupid things.
