Shots rang out when a cavalcade in which Polish President Lech Kaczyński and Georgian President Mihkeil Saakashvili were travelling was stopped by a Russian checkpoint near the Ossetian border. Nobody was hurt according to initial reports. The convoy was planning to visit a refugee camp near the Ossetian border but following the incident turned round and headed back to Tbilisi. Initial reports have been sketchy and it is not clear who fired the shots, said to be three volleys of machine-gun fire, possibly fired as a warning. President Kaczynski was quoted by PAP as saying: "The incident occurred in a place where according to the (Sarkozy-brokered) peace plan there should not have been any Russians." Rob Strybel Warsaw

This is where Sledz is right. I believe that we should enforce this in a much stronger way. Having studied it to a death, enforcement in EU circles is sadly lacking.

Sorry, he cannot spew out words without taking consequences. Take a hard stance and expect the same in return. When is his next planned visit to Russia anyway? On a delegation I mean. If he shakes the hand of the Russian officials, I will see him as nothing more than a barking wee poodle, safe in the bravery of being out of range. He should be thankful that it wasn't something more powerful, those Russians can be fierce, assuming it was them.

I also know from the Georgian president that there were Russian sentries in the area," said Lech Kaczynski at a presidents' press conference in Tbilisi. The Russians are denying that they had anything to do with the shootings.

On 'wirtualna polska' they are saying that Poland provoked the Russians. And that the EU is thinking about kicking Poland out of the union. I personally don't believe anything found on the net anymore, as its all modeled propaganda. Though if Poland are kicked out, I don't see a reason why Russia won't extend its borders.

just think. This way or another Kaczynski is the only Polish politician who publicly oppose to Tusk`s policy on Balkan, to pressure on Serbs. That way, Kacz present only Polish politician who represent Polish inteligentsia which traditionaly support Slavic South- particulary Serbians.... and, we know that traditionaly, Poles and Russians didn`t have mutual misunderstandings in approach to Balkan. Serbians aranged it for sure, Russian aren`t that stupid to kill Kacz... when they can agree with him over Balkan, why not over Georgia, over Ukraine, too.... so, why would they elimiante Kacz?.... Maybe `CIA/M6 and friends` want`s to instal puppet Tusk as dictator after eliminating Kaczynski... who knows... there are many options... Kaczynski is the best President he has balls to stand up to Russia and Europe not like Tusk that fagot coward. Polish president is very good and I hope to god he wins reelections!! Drang nach Osten meant the German drive or yearning for the East (hand-in-hand with Lebensraum). Using this phrase would imply the German government wants to resettle Polish lands (again) with ethnic Germans. I think this practice was officially ended in 1945. Lotnik, uspokój się. Nobody hates Poland. Poland is now one of the "reachest" countries in the EU and has many "alleys". Getting back to the topic, several people have now confirmed the shooting, so let's assume that several automatic bursts of fire did in fact happen. What was the cause? What are the options? 1. Russians were in the area, and did it. Most likely cause: unruly undisciplined poor Russian army conscripts, acting on their own (likely). 2. Same as above, but ordered by Moscow (unlikely). 3. Ossetian Rebels (likely). 4. Georgian troops, a ruse orchestrated by Saakashvili (unlikely, very big political risk if uncovered). I suspect either #1 or #3. Of course the Russians will deny everything - it would be a tremendous loss of face to admit that Moscow doesn't really don't have control over its own troops.
