Would anyone know how I would send money to Poland... I have heard that there is or was a tax which had to be paid by the recipient if the amount was too large. Is that true? Thanks for your help!

- as far as I know - no - you wouldn`t have to pay any taxes (if you don`t have a Polish citizenship) - if we`re talking about $50.000-$100.000 your transaction would be checked if you aren`t involved in moneyloundering. The person to whom you are sending the money would have to pay a tax though.. but it depends from the sum you`re sending and from your relationship to that person.

What would be the largest sums I could send without the recipient being responsible for any taxes or penalties? BTW - I'm not a money launderer, honest! In fact I don't even wash my clothes... Thanks again!

$1 = 3.2310 PLN If you`re sending the money to the son of your father`s wife - then I think in legal terms you`d fall into the 3rd cathegory.

Throught the bank because it is illegal to send money through the mail...!!! and it will be stolen so i suggest the bank...

Yeah...you can wire xfer it to her account through your bank. Just ask them or see if there's a western union or something similar.

We`ve also got free healthcare and education - but this system is very uneffective cose it wastes a lot of money an average worker is taxed in such a way that about 1/2 of his pay is being swallowed by taxes as well as various social payments that go to institutions who instead spend them on building new office buildings and sportcenters for their employees instead of spending them on hospitals and doctors. One of the main problems here is also bureaucracy, which is much larger and much more complicated than i.e. in the UK. And yes - it would be better if all of those people would indeed stay here, cose right now there aren`t enough people to work in Poland.. ..so we`re importing workers from the East.. even as far as North Korea.. btw. if Polish workers wouldn`t stand up for their rights then it is likely that there would be still communism in Europe.

In the US you can send money through mail, but it's not a smart idea because it can get stolen or could get lost. If you do want to send it through mail, make sure it's registered and insured, that way if the person in Poland doesn't get it, you will get a refund.( I know this because I'm a Postal Worker) Western Union works and so do bank transfers.

We used Western Union yesterday to send $500.00 from the US to Lodz Poland and the cost was $43.00. We did it on line and used our credit card. Very easy and the family in Lodz had it in just a few minutes. Thanks for the replies to our question. BoBo

I know that this thread started a long time ago but just in case anybody else comes across it as I just have I thought this might be of interest. If you want to send money back to Poland (or anywhere esle) from either the USA, Canada or the UK just visit sendmoneyhome.org, it's completely free, impartial and allows you to compare all the different services available saving you time and money. Banks and the big money transfer companies can be expensive (conveniently they are everywhere though) but there are dozens of companies out there. Maximum limits vary depending on the countries involved but if you contact sendmoneyhome.org they will help. BTW, sending cash amounts to using informal corridors and tends to make the authorities nervous as it's associated with money laundering so best keep it in the formal system. Hope that helps?!

the best way to send money to Poland is using this website slctransfer.com no taxes, only £4 any amount, is very very nice, the money in your account almost inmediately. i recomended. the problem is that you have to know a bit of polish, but there is an english translation

I was in the UK and sent money to my friend in Poland... We used a company called Now Transfer. They do a fixed fee money transfer service to Poland. Their exchange rates are so much better than others I have used. View it here, it has a good comparison of others also... nowtransfer.com

I used to send money for genealogy to the church with regular dollars wrapped in aluminum foil, in say a greeting card. That was years ago. I had thought it would be the same when I contacted a church for new research, and was told the research would cost, x # of Euros. So, silly me thought I needed to get Euros. I live in America and had to order them from the bank. It took five days and I got what I thought I would need and some for a donation. Then when the research was done, it was much less than I thought, and he gave me the church's bank routing number for a money transfer. And he said he could also receive Western Union! Which was less expensive. So now I have 75 Euros burning a hole in my pocket and I am booking a trip to Poland to spend them. LOL

Softsong: So now I have 75 Euros burning a hole in my pocket Well, Poland is not the best place for spending your Euro since we're still using Polisz złoty (Euro will be probably introduced in 2012), secondly, the US dollar has been getting weaker, so maybe you won't lose much (or even gain a few cents) if you sell the Euro back to your bank? Edit: don't get the wrong impression though that I'm trying to stop you from visiting Poland in any way :)
