Money transfer from Poland to England?

blip   Jan 2, 2008, 04:03am /  #
Good morning!

I'm trying to find the most cost efficient way of sending money from Poland to England. I don't have or know anybody who has a Natwest Welcome Account in England, so i cannot send any money through PKO. I would also rather avoid Western Union as I know it can be quite expensive.

Does anybody have any experience using other methods or companies? All advice welcomed.

Regards.

The most cost effective way to do it is to send from a Euro-denominated account in Poland to a Euro-denominated account in the UK. If you do that, EU law requires that the banks charge as much as they would to make/receive a domestic transfer (i.e. free for most personal accounts).

Personally I haven't bothered to set up a Euro-denominated account in the UK so I just transfer from my Citibank account here. I think it's 1% (with a 20zl minimum) if you do it over the phone and less if you do it on the net. You can send money to any bank in the UK from a Citibank account, why you can't from PKO is a bit of a mystery to me!

You would incur two currency exchanges to do it that way though if you are trying to send PLN to GBP , you would have PLN to EUR and then EUR to GBP.

Ive used this company for five years extremely professional and reliable. BTW if youre exchanging PLN - GBP best to initiate the transfer ASAP as the exchange rate today is the lowest for 5 years.

Probably not worth using them if the transfer is less than 10,000 PLN.

Still works out cheaper if you're sending a few hundred or less because the transfer is free.

I heard it was less than £10.00 via the post office. Give them a try.

Thanks for the information - i have check out a couple of western unions but they charged 80zł for sending 800zł plus their sell rate is just awful.

Does anybody know of anything less? I send this money everymonth and paying 80zł everytime is just throwing money away.

Even if its just a little less.

Thanks again:)

try worldpay.
that is the system that hsbc uses if i transfer money from uk to germany. charge is 9gbp...

another option cheaper than 80zl should be transfer via paypal. i calculated it once and the overall charge is around 9-10gbp as well...

I was reading a while ago about a cash card that you top up in the UK and then send a duplicate to Poland and then the person can draw the money out of a ATM here, but for the life of me I just cant find the info now. Anyone heard of this???

Well, yeah I head of this 1. Try google'ing a prepaid Visa or prepaid Mastercard. You will find quite a few nowerdays... I prefer to use a good service like - nowtransfer.com. They offer a fast service, which should be helpful to some...
