Or more specifically, Greater Manchester/Cheshire.

Is this a good place for a Polak to live or is there a lot of anti-Polish hatred, etc?

Also is it good place to buy Polish food/products/newspapers, and is there a well-attended Polish Catholic community anywhere? Sorry, but I don't know that part of the country very well, and most Google searches return information about London and not so much for outside. Thanks in advance to anyone who can help.

I have lots of Polish friends in South Manchester and none of them have reported any major incidents of "Pole Hating" as you put it. The area in which a lot of Poles live Levenshulme - this area has many polish shops. Also, many main stream supermarkets are now stocking polish foods and beer! I'm sure you would be made very welcome if you came to Manchester.

I wouldnt let a rabbid dog live there - a young girl was raped over that side of Manchester a couple of weeks ago and I would mention the shootings and the gang fights..but hey hoe if a couple of Polish shops swing it for you, you could try Prestwich which has the shops and a safe place to live..

try this site, it gives information about the areas you would like to or are thinking about living

upmystreet.co.uk

this

I would advise if you want to live in South Manchester, head for Didsbury, much nicer and safer

Thanks.

I've heard of some "ghetto" areas of Manchester, I just don't know the good areas are to the south side of the city, lol.

I've done a few searches, and an area apparently known as the "Four Heatons" seems to suit my lifestyle and budget. ;)

I'm not "going back" anywhere. You're not Polish though, are you? So maybe YOU should go back to where you came from - especially as you don't even seem to like the place!

And if all the Poles leave, you know who will replace them, don't you?

But I expect that the Angole would prefer that, anyway... Empire guilt, etc.

wow your generous with your compliments, no wonder people are negative towards the polish, especially if they have the same attitude as you've got about the English, maybe you could just stay in Poland :)

I doubt very much if there is any Polish hatred in Greater Manchester or any other part of England for that matter.

I suppose your opinion/experience is based on how things were 20 years ago... as always. There is most definitely Pole-hating in England, trust me on this.

England is quite multi racial and I would have thought that the Poles would fit in more than the Muslim communities. As for the North of England I can not comment but in the South East nobody takes any notice of them. In fact, would an Englishman even recognize the Polish Language as being polish?

True, but there has never been a time when 200 000 Muslims came over every year for five years in a row, their number is higher but growth has been more gradual. And most were born here.

It's not just the language, it's the way they look/behave as well. And as the dominant "Eastern" European ethnic group in London, they aren't difficult to spot.

But let's face it, spoken Polish hardly sounds like French, Italian or Spanish. If I can tell the difference between someone speaking Urdu and another speaking Arabic, I'm sure an English person can tell the difference between Polish and French speakers.

Then when i was drunk, some people thought i was Irish when i spoke lol... I agree with polski_zyd, you can tell who is Polish just by the way they look, dress or even walk. And Polish men always wear socks (mostly white socks) with sandals in the summer ha ha. And girls always have a "d¿insowa kurtka" lol.
