Sad or stupid - a Polish teacher killed whilst urinating on live rail

A man was killed at a busy railway station when he reportedly urinated on the track.

British Transport Police confirmed the 41-year-old was electrocuted at Vauxhall station in south London last week.

According to reports, the Polish tourist went to find somewhere discreet to go to the toilet but his urine splashed on to the live rail.

JustysiaS: finding the toilet at the station.... Hmmm.... public toilets around Vauxhall are probably best avoided (lots of seedy gay / fettish clubs in that part of town). Very tragic accident.

Poor chap. My condolences to his family, friends and colleagues who will have to deal with the loss, and have to deal with explaining how it happened. Humour is often a way of dealing with the difficult, tragic or even macabre side of life (and death). If you can't laugh, what can you do? R.I.P. (Rest in p!ss... I mean peace)

I watched a programme on Discovery Channel, which showed that this type of thing is a myth. I guess the Discovery Channel can be wrong once in a while.

I think if he knew that the rail was upstream, he wouldn't pee on it.. Just stupid accident. I still dont get how him standing on a platform and pissing on the tracks caused the electricution...or did he actually walk on the tracks in which case he was rather stupid and dangerous to not only him but passengers on trains passing through.

The report said it must have been splashback that carried the electric charge that killed him. I find this hard to believe. He must have p!ssed straight onto the live rail. Not so smart

Try training a hosepipe onto an electrical socket, it will have the same effect and you will learn the principle of "earthing" electricity.

The electrolytes in urine apparently make it an excellent conductor of electricity. Moral of the story if you must have a wee on a live rail, use short stacatto bursts not one long continuous stream.
