Hey guys. I am half polish, born in Canada. My mom is from Poland. I was wondering what I have to do to obtain a dual citizenship of both Poland and Canada? I would like to live in Poland once I am finished University and wondering how hard it would be to do. Thanks for any help regarding the matter. :)

Technically, you are a Polish Citizen. All you need to do is apply for your passport. Polish citizenship is automatically transfered to the child.

ok never mind what those hobos are saying. I am in the exact situation, although im in poland right now just traveling. you have to go to your embassy where you are. You have to make sure your mom has her polish passport, and then you can apply for it. But she has to have it in order for you to get it. Next, because most polish people are lazy in the embassies and all that, it will takea couple months for you to receive your temporary passport, and then 6-12 months if not more to receive your official passport.

It will save you a lot of time. exactly. even if 100% PL but born outside one would have to jump some hoops besides coughing up a bunch of dough. Just applied for a passport, so I know. You are automatically a Polish citizen if one of your parents has a Polish citizenship. You are not when one of your parents will decline it within 3 months of your birth. Just apply for a passport. Temporary will take 3 weeks, permanent will take 6 months and 156$ (because a courrier comes only once every 6 months!!!ridiculous). You do not have to serve in the military if you were born outside of Poland, which is your case (and my son's too).

The Polish consulate told me to fill out an application with all the documents listed on their website but I have not found a clear application form or a list of documents I would need to provide. Would anyone know how I could go about applying for citizenship?

The application has to be submitted in a special department in Poland called urzad wojewodzki. It will be urzad wojewodzki in Warsaw.

I am a Polish citizen but have lived in Canada most of my life. I have always had a Polish passport but the last time I had to renew my passport I needed to have something called a PECEL number, i guess it's kind of like a social security number. anyway, it took FOREVER to get it and mostly my mom did all the organizing but we FINALLY got the number about 10 months later. sheesh
