Do most polish people want to stay in the US?

Guest   Aug 10, 08, 11:30 /  #
I have some classmates who were born in Poland but came here to the US when they were very young. They are US-educated, and plan on finishing college here.
Does this generation typically stay / plan to stay in the US, or is it more of a trend that they will eventually move back to Poland? They are still Polish citizens and go to Polish school, and speak/read/write Polish fluently.

This is a tough question.. I think that it would be up to the individual... If they have family in Poland, then I would think that they would want to return..If the whole family is here, then I would think that they would stay.. Visit Poland maybe, yes.. But like I said it would be up to the individual

i think their families are not in the US.
But even my family is not completely in the US and I know that I will stay here, and probably will not live in my mother nation for most of my life. (I am not polish.)

oh, from what I know it all depends when they arrive in the US because once they are established (jobs, marriage, mortgage etc) most of them stay.
However, unlike the previous generation, the younger one is more prone to return to Poland since the system changed and there are more opportunities, especially for those who made some money in the US. But it is not an exodus as one would think.

I am sure there are some other people who would fill you in.

Just because they carry on with their culture in the US it doesn't mean that they will leave. I think they are- your friend is just being patriotic.

This is what I am saying.. It depends on the individual..Apparently, You like America.. So you decided what is best for you.

My Mom and Dad both came from Poland at an early age.. My Father loved Poland.. He told me many stories.. I once asked him if he would love to go to Poland..He said yes, but only to visit.. He loved America.
America is not for everybody..Some people will complain no matter where they live.

David. Don't believe everything that you read in the papers and TV..
My nephew just graduated from the university of Maryland. A month before he graduated,he was recruited with a Architec Company starting him off with an entrance level salary of $75,000.00 a year.

Try to get a service call for a broken appliance..It's a three day wait.. There is plenty of work here if you have a skill.

It's true.. The bubble has broken from the big wages.. But everybody that I know has a job.

My parents were born in Poland. I was born in Germany came here when I was 3 so I have no plans on ever going back to Poland / Germany except to visit. (which I have to both) This is my home to me and the best on this planet no matter what is said (and even I complain with the rest of the best)

I was born here, my father was born in Poland, and spent time in Germany during the war. He came here at teh age of 12. I've never been to Poland before, and while I wouldn't pass up an opportunity to go, I really don't think I'd go there without good reason. I don't speak Polish, and unless I went with someone who did, I think I'd feel very out of place.

My father was born in Poland and I in the USA, In 1951 my family came here. Even if I went back my fathers home is no longer Poland but, W. Ukraine. My Grandfather was born in Rzym, Polska and he instilled a love of Poland. My Dad living through Siberia deportation speaks very little of Poland.

I can't wait to visit and see for myself the beauty I could feel in my Grandfathers words. As for staying, IMO the DP's children had to wait to long to return. We now (as Miranda pointed out) have jobs, marriage, mortgage etc. My family came here and had to learn to speak english and new ways, I would have to go to Poland and learn Polish and their ways.
