Need help finding a polish bakery in chicago

mgcmaster   Jul 28, 08, 09:16 /  #
Can anyone tell me the name of a Polish Bakery I am trying to find? It is on Either, Division St., Chicago Ave., Or Augusta Just a block or so from Paulina St. I was back in Chicago a couple of years ago and went there to get the GREATEST cheese cake in the world. Unlike your new york style cheesecake, this is closer to an angel food cake. It still has the cheese flavor but is like it is puffed up.

I thought the name of the bakery was Augusta Bakery, but I cannot find that name anywhere. Please someone help.

how about baking your own - so a search in a food section here.

Tried that. So many different ones, so many different recipes, not sure which is the one I want. I know the one at that bakery is the right one, because I had one the last time I was in Chicago.

mgcmaster: Augusta bakery may be out of business or it has been sold and the name changed. There are many other Polish bakeries in the Chicago area.

There is a Polish store on Division, 2 block west of Ashland on the left side of the street. It is a deli store but you may find some goodies. For cheesecake, I would reccomend a French bakery on North Avenue. It is about 2 block east of damen/north/milwaukee ave intersection. It's the best of the best.

Oak Mill bakery... best of the best. They are the only ones that have a pear cake, and once you try it, you're hooked on it. They are somwhere on Belmont, close to Central ave. Look it up.

I mean there's a whole bunch of polish bakeries in chicago. bakeryquest.com has a list of mostly all the bakeries in Chicago. I say call up a couple that sound polish, and ask if they sell in polish items. It'll save you gas and time.

Oak Mill is good, but it lacks the "polishness" I guess. Its rather americanized, and quite pricey.

I think , it might be Alliance Bakery, 1736 W Division.
They are one block west from Paulina and still in business, very much so.I've been there many moons ago and might just renew my relationship with them after your comments about the cheesecake!
I called them to make sure they are still operating and they open till 9:00pm, here is the phone number for you, mgcmaster :1(773)278-0366.
Good luck.
