Time to shop until you drop across the Atlantic, the U.S. embassy says. In an unusual appeal, the United States is enticing Poles to visit and spend money this summer in hopes of propping up its faltering economy. The campaign comes as the Polish currency hit a historic high _ reaching 2.1194 zloty to the dollar on Monday.

"The zloty is particularly strong and it's a good time to travel to the States,"

......if you can get here ;)

Yes it's amazing. We invited a friend to visit us this summer and she was able to get an appointment at the embassy in less than a week!!! And she got her visa no less, no problemu! Truly amazing.

Interesting.
Why not give them visas then? People want electronic devices and they are out of reach to a lot of Poles in Poland, but they could surely clean up the shelves in "Best Buy" and "Circuit City" here..as well as Walmart. :)

- Why would they want to stay in US? In quite a few respects, Poland is a better country to live than US. As Bob Dylan croaks: 'The times a-changin,' you know? If you went to Poland, I would actually wonder whether you were going to 'return back' (sic) to where you came from.

- Oh God, it's pathetic.

- Are you a trueblue American or one of those immigrants who after a few years of living there get screwed on their minds and start pretending they're natives (examples in this forum: darius, mirandupa - both from Canada)? Your English certainly doesn't seem to be trueblue American.

Hej, in case you haven't heard, most of the people living in the US have immigrant roots, it's just a matter of HOW MANY you count as a "few years"

- Well, but some don't - they were born in the US and raised in the US all their lives. Don't you really see the difference between them and those who come from outside and after a few years time come to believe they are just like those who were born and raised in the US? They start pretending they don't know their native language, treat their countrymen with contempt, etc. It's very very stupid, isn't it?
:)

VaFunkoolo:
Where did your screwed up

- How's it going, pervert? How's your sexuality? Still confused as to whether you should screw guinea pigs or fat little boys?

Good point Puzzy. It is defection for sure. Many Poles who go and live in Germany for a few years, having lived in Poland for even longer b4, are the same. They start speaking German and identify themselves more as German. WTF? I would never abandon being Scottish. Sure, I can embrace the cultures that I encounter when I travel, but u shouldn't lose ur identity through it.

There are many derivates/off-shoots. Napier is a university in Edinburgh, I'm sure u knew that. Many emanate from the Scottish presence in Poznan all those years ago. Cheers for pointing that out, a shared aspect of our respective cultures

- Oh, I haven't been talking solely about the Poles, but by immigrants from other nations as well. I've seen quite a few interesting cases of immigrant behaviour in America.

As for your being Scottish, well, I must admit I suspect you are actually an ethnic guy, perhaps born and living in Scotland. Am I right on that?

What did u have in mind when u said 'ethnic guy'? Like u, I interpret the same words differently, sometimes for good, sometimes for bad.

- I mean not Scottish-Scottish, but e.g. French Scottish, Jewish Scottish.

Aha, purity. Well, not entirely. I'm 1/4 Irish. I have a healthy love and appreciation of 'things Irish' although, first and foremost, I am a Scot.

My post was placed here to start a discussion about what the attiutude of your average immigrant/migrant is.

It was merely to invite the shopaholics of Poland to the US because we're hard up for greenbacks ;) I just found it to be a funny article.

- I like them. I went three or four times to their concerts (in America).

urszula:

- What specifically are you asking about?

urszula:
haha, you sound like a dumb stupid pole who comes to this country and knows it all. Hahaha

- Why would I sound so, specifically? As for you, you sound like a typical vicious Polonophobe. 'Dumb stupid pole' is an expression from the American racist's vocabulary. I wonder why Polonophobic racists like you infest Polish forums?

Indeed, I have nothing against Americans. The visa policy did put a spanner in my holiday plans last year though!

Yeah, it's really great time for tourism and business and I would be the first to go there even this summer as I have no plans for now and lots of free time. But I'm not allowed there (read I need visa) so no thank you.. I'll go to Canada or Malta/Greece.

It is a shame, I agree. Unfortunately, I don't have enough clout to resolve. I hope to see a change for the better soon.
Right now, I'm happy for the fact that my GF was given a 10 yr. visa. I hope it can be easy for everyone who tries. It's 1 positive step towards this working.

Canada is cool. You wouldn't be disappointed there either. Sorry about the Visa issue. What's the hold up?
