Not if you are looking for loose change for the collection plate.

Years ago I asked santa for something to wear and something to play with.
He gave me a pair of trousers with no pockets!

I would think it is slightly disrespectful but not really bad.

i've seen them and they are attending a mass. plunging neckline that shows skin. i'm just wondering why is it disrespectful? any ideas why? i have searched online on how catholics should act whilst inside the church and it does not mention anything about having your both hands in your pocket to be disrespectful.

It is disrespectful to stand with your hands in your pockets in any walk of life. Didn't your mother teach you any manners.

different culture wroclaw. if you can not give me any reason behind it and just assume that it is disrespectful then i would assume that you have been educated thru what you see and not thru reasoning. no offense ... but other catholic countries doesn't say that it is disrespectful. that is why i am trying to find out why? and not just be an ignorant man following others just because they said so.

Keeping hands in one`s pocket is a sign of relaxed attitude which verges on disrespect.
Certainly, people who consciously go to church to pray won`t display such attitude. You should be concentrated, not relaxed.

I observed it in foreign tourists who sightsee Krakow`s churches. As tourists they are quite relaxed.

BTW, do you know that males should take of their hats/caps while in the church?

i know for a fact that they should remove hats. but i was raised in the philippines and the priest did not say that it is disrespectful. there are some differences in how catholic church teach their religion. just like we are allowed to eat meat on christmas day and i found out that in poland they do not. i am asking because i want to make sure i don't disrespect polish. just today at 12pm we went to church and i saw polish people wearing their winter caps. it doesn't bother me at all because i believe they don't mean to disrespect, i'd rather think that they are just keeping their head hot as i am trying to keep my hands hot too.

i will google rules of etiquette for that matter.

thanks

Oh, I see. Very interesting.

Keeping hands in pockets doesn`t belong to official teaching of the church. It is the case of bad/good manners.

just like we are allowed to eat meat on christmas day and i found out that in poland they do not.

Yes, we can. Actually, we always could. The ban (or strong recommendation) on meat at Christmas existed only in Poland, was more a matter of tradition than any church rules. Polish Church lifted the ban (or, more precisely, declared there wasn`t any real ban) 2, 3 years ago, I think. But Poles still stick to tradition and prefer fish.

i am asking because i want to make sure i don't disrespect polish.

You are a gentle person.

I wonder where the idea of keeping hands in pockets came from? Did you do it and someone notified you about it?

just today at 12pm we went to church and i saw polish people wearing their winter caps.

You could see women wearing hats, they are allowed. You couldn`t see males wearing hats, it wasn`t in Poland for sure. :):)

ok then...let's just say that the reason, why it's disrespectful, is Polish culture... enough said...

What if it goes unobserved and is discreet? It harms no-one.

Just wondering :)

I think digging is still OK. What if sth itches you in the nose? You must put your finger in it....

But eating what you dig out of your nose is improper. In polluted areas, like Krakow, it is even risky...

I'm with pawian on this one. Eating is horrible but removing is ok.

Many uptight people out there, Wahldo. I'm not a big fan of churches but when was the last time you heard of a brawl in church?? I haven't. I like the serenity of churches and silent contemplation.

The crossing and peacefully conducted sermons are nice.

Ha, well if you'd like to be the vicar around here by my guess.

Yes sir, sign of the times I'm afraid. Europe's becoming a powder keg maybe. I read in the Economist that neo nazism is on the rise in East Germany. Crazy times ahead.
