Easter weekend in Poland - does everything Close?

Hi. I am just wondering what the story is in Poland around easter weekend i.e. are things opened on Good Friday, easter sunday etc or do things close down?

I heard its the law in Poland now that on bank holidays all the shops are shut? Someone living in Poland, please tell us more.

Small groceries will remain selectively open and rather in shorter hours. That is at least how I remember last year. Some fast food chains may stay open, too. I am talking here bigger towns. You're better off to get your supplies earlier on. Monday morning can be unpleasant due to kids running the streets with buckets full of water...

and, if you hear the word Smingus-Dyngus...run!!! Or, your Easter outfit will be quite wet :)

I remember those days very fondly ......when I was a kid, my friends and I used to keep the Smingus-Dingus tradition going here in London :o) ...... although most of the English people didn't know what was going on !!

We made sure it was only Polish people who understood the tradition got soaked !

Looks like a bit of harmless fun to me ........ although I'm a bit past it now, I will encourage my kids to keep the good tradition alive !

it could be - in the summer
but with March/April weather (sometimes really cold) it can be dangerous, some people don't know the measure. And noone is safe, not even men :)

But I loved it as a kid (actually longer, till I was 20-23 yeras old)

i wouldnt call lany poniedziałek harmless fun, its just an invitation to cause trouble for some idiots running around with buckets full of freezing water, targeting poor old dears coming out from church.
