Greetings everyone,

As I mentioned in my previous messages, I'll be in Poland over the holiday season visiting my girlfriend. I'm from the US. We're going to visit her parents while I'm there and I'm looking for ideas for them. Her mom mentioned to my GF that she would like me to bring her a jar of Vermont maple syrup. OK, no problem. However, I'd like to get her parents another gift or two as well. Unfortunately I'm at a loss and my GF couldn't help much with ideas either. Can anyone suggest specific gift ideas that I can bring them from the US that may not be available in Poland? Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated!!

How about a big box of assorted chocolates, different kinds, stuffings etc. I saw a box like that in one house and it was displayed for a few weeks in the living room before people opened it. It is a useful and safe present, no one will be offended etc, and Poles certainly like sweets....

Thanks for the quick reply Pawian. I thought about getting them chocolates and/or other food related stuff from the US. Maybe an assortment of cheeses and meats. Are there other specific item(s) (doesn't have to be a food item) that Poles like from the US?

By the way, we Americans love sweets too!!

Hmm, I would be careful with cheeses. If they contain some exotic kinds, e.g., this orange American cheese (we called it Reagan`s revenge in 1980s) or blue cheese, the recipients of such a present might have a little dilemma what to do with it. :):):)

And meat is definitely a bad choice. Poland has wonderful meat products.

Chocolates are the safest food possible.

Sorry, nothing comes to my mind. The only American product I use is Tabasco sauce. :):):)
