You can name them! Pieniądze ! Is body enhancement popluar as in other countries as the US? In the US It is popular for girls at 18 to get breast alterations and other things.

It is not as popular as in the US, I guess. Maybe some celebrities get plastic surgeries, but among "normal" people it is not so common. I myself doesn't know personally anyone after a plastic surgery.

Nope, not a very popular thing to do in poland. But it's the cost that stops people from doing it rather then anything else.

no, it is the culture in my opinion. having something "changed" in your body is still seen as something strange, a stupid whim... Once again, i don't know anybody who dreams of having a plastic surgery and only the lack of money prevents them from having one. i think that many people in Poland believe that if you look like something, this is you ang changing anything just to look better would be a kind of "cheating".

I didn't say that all the poles want to get plastic surgery. I meant, that many of them want to, but only thing that stops them from doing it is money. I personaly don't know anyone who wants to have one either, but things could be diferent if the price for this kind of "change" were lower. I do hear from time to time "if i had a choice i would change this" or "i don't like this in me", so you never know...

can't agree with you. As James mentioned, i think its the matter of 'not having the funds' rather than ' what other will'say - omg- she/he changed his nose'

contrary to a popular opinion, there are many rich Poles, and many that are not very rich but can afford for example a nose surgery. and they don't have plastic surgeries. . . so? i really think that there is something else that prevents them from having a plastic surgery

Maybe a little bit of narcism? :P I didn't ever even consider plastic surgery because of that :P

I will use a stereotype - it is widely known that Poles grumble about everything (and it is to some extent true). Most people who grumble about everything, grumble also about their looks (even if they doesnt let it show)
But let's hope that Poles do not grumble at all:P another stereotype has been vanquished! (i dont know if it is the right verb to use here but who cares)

Only if you believe what you see on Laguna Beach and other trashy teen shows.

I have a lot of female friends in the US, and can vouch than none of them have ever had a boob job.

it's simple economics, some of the rich poles are starting to do it. Take a wander round the Holmesplace gym at the Hilton in Warsaw and you'll see one or two examples.

In the Us you will see many youngergirls with augmentation. I know 4 families that have daughters who did it out of ten families I would consider that a high number. And they are all farmers. You see it is not just the crops that are getting modifiedhere.

What? All of them? Nah, don't kid yourself....

Also, bear in mind that there is cosmetic surgery and cosmetic surgery - having your ears pinned back or a breast reduction for health / emotional reasons is a completely different kettle of fish to wanting bigger boobs like Pamela Anderson or whoever....

The price of self esteem is the issues. People need to have better thoughts of themselves regardless of looks. Does anyone know anyone who has had breast enlargements and is now elderly? Say 70 or older. I know a 60 yrold woman and she looks great. With her new self esteem she works out now and takes care of herself so much better than ever.

Did she get them done in her late 40s or 50s?

You do know that breast implants need to be removed / renewed after 10-15 years, don't you?

SHe had them at 52 so she is up for renewal . I bet her husband is bummed on that expense again. No I did not know this. Maybe then when women get older they opt out for non renewal?

Plastic surgery isn`t so unusual in Poland, I suppose.

Currently I don`t know any women who had it recently but I perfectly remember my sister got her floppy ears improved in 1985, and 4 years later my girlfriend had an operation on her big nose.
So, if they performed plastic surgery 25 years ago and I can recall the waiting room full of female patients (I went there with my ex partner), I guess it has become even more popular by now, only we, males, don`t know about it.

The gastric bypass surgery has become the big topic these days now in the US. Any thoughts? Is this performed in Poland to?

Belgium is the key hotspot for this - for obese people in the UK at least.

Cosmetic surgeons must be rubbing their hands with glee.... after extreme weight-loss, there's lots of flab to trim down....

Ive seen quite a few progs on this and as a slim person I find it hard to understand how someone could get to such a weight, there was that woman a few weeks ago on tv (she died after the op) and she was 1/2 a ton - she maintained she didnt eat a lot, only 10 dollar burgers a day (that was a snack) and countless other crud, whilst I understand that emotional past problems can play a part, Im a believer in "healthy body healthy mind" and eating yourself to death isnt really the way forward.

A lot of companies in the UK now supply a fruit basket in the office (free fruit for all) instead of vending machines full of snacks..

I have worked for three diiferent companies in the last 15 years and every company had arround 8-12 women . Every one of these women sat at their desk munching snacks all day and the rest of the time they wer complaining of their fat husbands or their own fat buts. The fruit basket idea is very good. thanks for bringing it up!

I recently met a women who went from 300 pounds to 110 pounds SHe looked so old with all that hangin wrinkly skin. Another drawback from surgery. I also heard of back problems contrary to what you would normally think from loosing the weight. I guess the back has to go into adifferent supproting position than it was used to fro years and this is where the problem comes from.

What is interesting is all these people are simple farmers who I would never have thought would do these things with their conservative backrounds. The answer I feell is the money. They all have plenty of the green stuff.
