Poland should celebrate Thanksgiving Too!

outintheyard   Nov 26, 2008, 06:49am /  #
THe Polish people have much to be thankful for! People forget and need to be reminded. Have people forgotten Hitler and other terrible living conditions and political conflicts as well as the poverty and the working conditions and so on.

They have Polish independence day which they have just celebrated and they have plenty of other celebrations throughout the year, why take on an American one, Europeans have their own.

I am just wondering waht the thought is of having one day to encompass many events. Poland currently has so many individual celebrations Mainly excuse to do much drinking it seems.

who?

That is a more realistic answer than one might think!

Thanksgiving is an American Holiday cant we just leave it at that, it was about the Pilgrims getting together with the Indians and being thankfull for a bountifull harvest, and the tradition carried on.

Exactly, there are American Poles that celebrate Polish Independence day and we even have parades, but its not a national holiday.

No... but he has nothing to do with Thanksgiving:)

plk123   Nov 26, 2008, 07:50am /  #
no to american style thanksgiving here too. we already have dożynki and that's enough.

outintheyard   Nov 26, 2008, 07:52am /  #
Thanksgiving may not be the best as to call it as in its relation to the US holliday. However, Why not a national holliday encompassing all that has been accomplishe d over the years. Not just Independence. I think you will see where I am going here?

What about eastern european day ?

There . It has been titled! They certainly deserve it!

Why? Like I said we have our traditions and holidays in Europe and you have your traditions and USA...let's just leave it at that..

Why bring Hitler into a thread about wanting to push some American holiday on to Polish people?

Because as an american it is my Duty to solve the worlds problems!

I fear future generations are going to forget the reality of who this bastard was.

I fear you are a very stupid person then! Maybe future mexicans whoops sorry Americans won't know who is he because you don't learn our history...but be sure of one thing all future generations in Europe will remember!

I can't quite fathom why are you talking about accomplishments and Thanksgiving. Do you know about the history of Thanksgiving in the US? About the only thing the colonists accomplished that year was in that they gladly accepted the help of the local natives.

They killed them the next year.

Taking care of American problems first would be a good start ;)

I honestly do not think they will. The Educators will eventually put other events in front and older events will get less emphasis. DId the Brits remember what happened when they ruled Iraq? ANd then they join the US in another effort. Results will be the same!

Why should Poland be celebrating US holidays? I think they have plenty of holidays, where everyone is off from work, offices closed, etc.

Its a consolidation thing Might be good

I wish we had that many days off from work, like they do in Poland. All the religious & non-religious holidays, that people have off from work in PL, are probably more than all my vacation time.

Maybe you can work on recognizing these PL holidays in the US, so we can get a couple extra days off!

Yeah, whats next Veterans, Memorial, Labor day and the 4th of July?
How about MLK day.. in Poland..lol

I think we call can go on sharing Easter and X-mas:)

If you lived in America you could celebrate
Polish Indpendence day
St, Patricks day
Columbus day
oktoberfest
cinco de mayo..they wont make these holidays though

I think every one should celebrate thanksgiving after all there is always some thing you are thankful for. I and my family do celebrate thanksgiving in Chicago!

Good for you. Americans do have reasons to thank Indians for the survival of the first colonists. Poles have no such background.

Poles in Poland celebrate ancient Slavicdozynki - the Holiday of the Harvest.

You celebrate it because you are in a country what celebrates its...it's an A M E R I C A N holiday..........

It's my 'family and I celebrate', NOT 'I and my family' :)

This has been interesting. I threw this on the forum to get some life out it to say the least. SOme will remember what they are thankful for regardless of where they live in the world. SOme just go on and expect the world to revolve arround them. Some jump to conclusions before knowing, and some have a lack of vision.

sledz   Nov 26, 2008, 11:16am /  #
I`ve deceided to make Tywald day a holiday since it comes after July 4th and it would be convenient for me... Cheers!

dont you mean cause the worlds problem? who cares about thanksgiving. its so hypocritical. they give thanks to the indians who saved their ass from starvation after at least two failed attempts to start settlements in the new world had failed and then later they killed almost of them and stole all of their land. and then they kill loads of turkeys to celebrate. great holiday!!
