poland in general for the english

paul 1313   Aug 19, 08, 15:50 /  #
my fiance is polish i am english, and to be honest the biggest problem brits have in poland is the arrogance of thinking eveyone, should speak english... the country is beautiful and the people in general are fantastic. like everywhere you get idiots. but you get that here. learne the language and realise the country is trying to re build its self from years of nazi destruction and decades of russian rule. i personally move there next year and cant wait. learne the language and adjust in the next few years many will be heading there.

if you think the biggest problem brits have in poland is the arrogance of thinking eveyone, should speak english, which you obviously do, then you are wrong

when you have actually lived in poland, and thus able to speak from firsthand experience, you will find that there are a wealth of problems that face brits there. the arrogance of thinking everyone should speak english being fairly low on the list

you might also come to realise that many brits attempt to speak polish only to be spoken to in english in return. thats a problem that appears higher on the list

Sorry, but you are not making sense.

So, you are going to be like the wizened old hippy who's been living in Goa / Ibiza / Pattaya Beach / wherever for years and likes to consider himself a local, while sneering down his nose at the visitors...

I spend a lot of time in Poland - both on business and for fun (most trips that I make are more often or not a combination of the two), and while I don't speak the language, I am always respectful and my hosts usually meet me half-way.

Don't think that you will become fluent in the language overnight and don't think that you're the first guy to be all high and mighty because you have a Polish girlfriend.

He'll be back here in a week, asking advice on how to deal with a cheating nurotic GF :)
