Can you recommend a reliable online shop where I could buy the DVD of Wajda's movie Katyn? It should be an edition for Zone 2 and PAL colors, with English or French subtitles.

They're not releasing the film theatrically in several countries, including mine. I was lucky enough to see it in Krakow last February and I would like some of my friends to see it. I went to 2 superstores in town here and they say the DVD isn't scheduled for release either (at least for the time being). So I think the only solution is to order it online from some Polish store.

Hello again!!

I have been looing for Polish films recently, but keep coming back with French ones. (Betty Blue and La Haine are recommended) but have not yet found any here in London.
This looks interesting so i had a look for you but found nothing i'm afraid, however it is only recently released yes? so it may be more easily available over time.

I found it on a torrent site, but i'm sure you aint into all that torrenting business.

Hope it comes out soon though, it looks really powerful.

I usually buy at:
merlin.pl
or
empik.com
They're reliable, and I know that abroad shipping prices in Merlin aren't high.

Available versions:
HD-DVD - 110 złotych
2-disc - 70 złotych
regular - 50 złotych
Unfortunatelly, only the most expensive one (HD-DVD) has English subtiltes listed.
All 3 releases have Polish subtitltes for hearing impaired.
The 50 zł and 120 zł editions have something called "audio-description" for blind people.

One remark: new DVDs have usually a poor description in Polish online shops (they use publisher's promotional info and publishers often forget to mention all the technical/language information), so there's a chance that even the cheaper versions have English subs. You just have to write an e-mail to the shop and ask them about a specific edition(s).

Those DVDs have a few comments so far, and I read in one of the comments (for the 50 zł edition) that the Polish subtitles aren't well synchronized with the picture, while the audio-description (for the blind) is sometimes infantile.

I'm gonna have to learn this language a lot quicker if i want to watch this on Friday!

French films are so under rated here in the UK.

Some of the best films I have EVER seen have been French. It's also true to say that some of the worst ones have also been French.

Some of my personal faves:-

Tell No-One
Jean de Florette/Manon Des Sources
Horseman on the Roof
Amelie
Cyrano de Bergerac

I have a copy of Katyn which I would seel but it's not subtitled :(

If you like French films, look no further than The 400 Blows, one of the greatest movies of all time.

I'm taking note of these and will hunt them down, thanks.

La Haine is awesome,
Betty Blue is a bit of an acquired taste but if you can sit through a 3 hour film that requires a lot of emotional strength then go for it!
Delicatessen is pretty funky.
Tricolor? (Three colours series) are deep engaging films.
Amelie is just lovely! what a pleasant little movie this is.

Also to the original poster:
The copy i d-loaded is pretty good, a DVD rip but i'm struggling to get it back on disc thanks to the seperate subtitle files that come with it, but then burning DVDs is not my speciality!!
So if you dont mind a little pirating here and there, and watching it on your PC or media streaming device, then i will PM you the torrent url. Just ask.
