English Football and Poles.

Ey up , How Do and Cześć I've had a gander ( a look ) through the sports section here and I noticed that there wasn't a thread on English Footie. I was also wondering that when Poles come to England do they support the team of the city they reside in. Or glory hunt and support the likes of Man Utd, Chelsea and er Liverpool. I don't mean forget you home town team back home as that is unthinkable as I would never lose allegiance to Liverpool. But, if I was in a foreign city I would support that team whilst I was there and always have a soft spot for them. Any views and comments would be most welcome. Ta.

I think some may have their favourite team and would stick and follow it to the point of checking the scores and seeing how well the team is on the table. Then they would identify perhaps with team from the town they happen to live. Some would stick to teams more often shown on polish tv or the ones most popular like Chalsea or MU, Arsenal. There would be a group who'd follow English team based on some polish players playing for that particular club. Now Southampton is very popular as they have to strikers from Poland and actually scoring many goals. Same goes for ....Scotish league as many would support Celtic just for goalkeeper Boruc playing there. As for this particular Pole ....I would watch Southampton games on tele whenever I catch them on but I don't check the tv programme to not miss it. Whenever they'd show MU I'd look to see if Kuszczak is on the pitch. Several years ago I would follow the news about West Brmowich Albion for no particular reasons other then they would (back then) tend to make lots of away wins....... I want England to make it to Euro as they'd enrich championship for sure.

Football is a working class sport, sorry was working class sport before TV and the money man moved in. When the working classes used to finish work on a Saturday afternoon whether it be the mines in Yorkshire, the mills in Lancashire or the docks in Liverpool the working man used go staright to the game and watch his team. This is very, very rare these days so thats where alot of the you must be local attitude stems from as the game has been sold . This has led to most of Liverpools support from being from all over the country and has led to a price increas and therefor squeezing out the working class man. As for your comment about England in the Euro championships they have has much hope as Liverpool winning The Champions League this season ;-) Another thing my friend . Southampton are shite. ;-) Only joking thanks for your clear response it made a lot of sense to me.

But then, the English side I follow is quite bad at the moment, Lincoln City. The reason I chose them is because my great-grandfather and his family originated from there before emigrating to Canada and then the USA. The other club I follow is Wisla Krakow.

Speaking of supporting other teams. I remember a group of Lech Poznan supporters regularly travelling to Hertha Berlin games to support Piotr Reiss who came from Poznan to Berlin in 1999. Was quite a sight seeing all those banners in polish popping up all of a sudden.
