It's that time of year again. Any predictions as to how many medals Poland will pick up at the Olympics this year?

In 2004 we got a total of 10 medals, 3 gold, 2 silver and 5 bronze.

Peter,
when you start a new thread, there's a possibility to "create a poll", it would be useful for this discussion.

Somewhere between the Baltic and the Carpathians, I think.

I tried ranking the countries in the top 21 by number of medals (weighted so that gold is worth 3, silver 2 and bronze 1), then divided that score by the population of each country. After a little multiplication to make the numbers usable, I found that the top three countries are:

Bronze: Slovakia
Silver: Austria
Gold: Georgia

China in only 19th place in the Osiol Ranking System.

Our athletes are still on a sightseeing tour, probably got lost somewhere by the Great Wall or perhaps they party too hard with the locals.

You must really be bored stiff to do that.

All this adventure in Georgia was started in order to distract peoples attention from that shameful fact. But I see it didn't fool you Bubba. Damn you Brits! ;)

Strangely enough, we call "Bejing" in Polish "Pekin". Just like "Italy" is "W³ochy" and "England" is "Anglia". :)

Sorry dude, Im sure you'll garb a couple of golds.

Ive been watching the Olympics on TVP and it is extremely frustrating. They show Polish contestants for about five miuntes and then talk for an hour, where the action!! any action?

Yeah, definitely sad! The Olympics are almost over and the Poles haven't gotten anything! I am very disappointed. Well, I wouldn't say I am surprised, since they have lost horribly in the UEFA this year, too. (they only got one goal-sad!!) Anyways, I am guessing that they will get (at most) around three medals. And I am not trying to be pessimist, but I am just judging on the facts. And I have no interest in judging Polish people in a mean way, cause I love their nation.

Well, yeah, but still, they should have gotten SOMETHING 'till now.

There just isnt the infrastructure in Poland to promote sports, plain and simple.

I didn't exactly mean that the Olympics are over- but I consider that the most important part is over. If it's halfway over and they haven't gotten anything, well, then for me it's almost over. Same difference. And you're acting like I'm insulting Poles. Well, I am not.

Hopefully we stand a chance of landing a medal or two in rowing and men's handball. At this rate we'd be lucky to get 5 in total.
Rude_Bob   Aug 15, 08, 00:08 /  #
Holy crap. Seven days into olympics and Poland is still winning less.

Well.. guys, now that you merged with USA you can be happy for Michael Phelps ;-)

It's only because no one but the Chinese athletes are used to breathing that brown stuff they call air in Beijing! And they only have "half" the cars on the roads right now to cut pollution down...can you imagine what it must be like the rest of the time?

Finally!

Poland assured of a medal in the men's team epee. In the finals vs France so a gold or silver.
