Polish hopes at this years tournament lie with 14th seed Agnieszka Radwanska (best - 4th round 2006) who will play her first round match against Czech player Iveta Benesova (best - 2nd round last year). Radwanska has also entered the ladies doubles with Marta Domachowska (Pol). With the way the draw is Aga and Marta will meet in the second round of the singles if they both win their first round matches.

One Radwanska has already progressed to the second round with a win over Klara Zakopalova of the Czech Republic. Urszula Radwanska saw off Zakopalova 6-1, 6-4 but now faces 6th seed Serena Williams in the second round.

Aga and Marta have a first round doubles match against the British duo of Sarah Borwell and Jocelyn Rae. Poland is also represented in the ladies doubles by Alicja Rosolska who teams with Tatiana Perebiynis (Ukr) and by Klaudia Jans who teams with Mervana Jugic-Salkic of Bosnia Herzegovina.

Male hopes in the singles lie with Dawid Olejniczak who will play Gilles Simon, the 28th seed from France.

In the doubles though, hopes lie with the 10th seed pairing of Mariusz Fyrstenberg and Marcin Matkowski who play unseeded Rohan Bopanna (Ind) and Aisam-Ul-Haq-Qureshi (Pak). Poland will also be represented by Lukasz Kubot who will team with South African Rik De Voest.

Of course, all eyes will be on Aga! :)

Marta def. Jill Craybass 6-1, 3-6, 6-4. All three Polish girls/ladies in the second round, that's not something I was expecting (of course I was hoping for that, but Marta plays bad on grass and Urszula is a nutcase). Ula can't control her temper, often swears or cries on court, so I was expecting a breakdown in the second set, when she was 6-1, 5-4 and 40-15 up, serving for the match, wasted both match points and was defending twice against a break point, fortunatelly she kept her head cool for once and used her third match point :)

Too bad there will be only one left in the third round (Ula's chances against Serena are so low, that only an injury from the American could help) and Marta against Agnieszka is rather chanceless too.

First double pair (Klaudia Jans with Mervana Jugic-Salkic of Bosnia Herzegovina) is already out.

Olejniczak, well, who knows, I really have no idea how the Polish men play, you can't watch them on TV, but Dawid's ranked around 200th in ATP ranks, won 3 qualifying matches (defeating in the third round Kubot's doubles partner, De Voest) and probably the main draw would be too much for him, especially when he has to play against a seeded player.

There were three other Poles in the qualifying (Łukasz Kubot fell in the first round, Michał Przysiężny made it through to the third and final round of the qualifications, but then lost. In ladies singles Anna Korzeniak defeated Mashona Washington of USA and then lost to a Frenchwoman Stephanie Foretz)
