Lots of rumours going round but the official word:

Hmm. Confirms my thoughts. We have full confidence in..... followed by the axe falling. I hope I'm wrong. It would be bad if Poland and Ukraine didn't have the opportunity to showcase themselves.

sorry z-darius, most people, even here in Vancouver, call it Danzig. Pronounciation is easier than the polish version.

you can't be really annoyed if he uses German

I'm not annoyed.

AngelNC:
I'm not trying to put you down or anything like that I'm just saying how it is.

Same here. Just gently reminding how it is.

Not a biggie.

I've been sometimes wondering how this works though.
For the 2012 games they use the name Danzig cuz the name Gdansk is too difficult. When writing about Solidarity times it's the name nearly always becomes easier - "Gdansk Shipyard" ;)

eastprussian, I mean that some construction work in Vancouver is still on starting stage even it is 2 years till 2010. So Ukrainians and Polish has enough of time ahead to build what they need for Euro 2012.

Varshava= warsawa

English Pron Polish Spelling

I think that Poland will host it for sure.

there are more problems with the co- hosts of Ukraine.

I heard they were thinking about using the reserve stadiums in Poland, if Ukraine can not satisfy the requirements.

I heard on the radio today that Poland may totally get out of the picture for the 2012 Olympics. Italy, Germany and France are considered. It looks like Poland may not be ready with the stadiums, roads, hotels etc.
That's pretty sad.

Easy there Eurola. In his last interview Michel Platini stated that there is no plan B considered. No Italy, no France, no Scotland, no Germany, what so ever. Euro goes to Poland and Ukraine and all this hype about taking it away is being caused by journalists looking for sensation. BTW I wouldn't be surprised if those rumors were actually started by Polish press.

Either way everything will be clear in autumn so we still have to wait a little bit. Are you planning on visiting Poland during the Euro?

Not Germany!
The german DFB boss Zwanziger just ruled it out in a TV-interview to make a bid for these games (should it really happen that new hosts are being sought).
He said they had great games already in 2006 and to much respect for the other countries.

France, Spain or Portugal are being considered was the last I heard...

Thread attached on merging:
Euro 2012

What's your opinion about Euro 2012.
Many are concerned about the speed of Poland and Ukraine to prepare Euro 2012.
Should we be too?

First, are you German? :)
Answering your question, From what I saw when i last went to Poland, (June this year) The situation wasn't too bad; and judging by the fact that the guys in Bydgoszcz built a pretty nice stadium, renovated the area around it and blah blah in a pretty short time, we can do it. Dunno about Ukraine though. :/

OK, I've read the latest so I have fewer doubts. My concern now is not the stadia, but the roads etc. It's looking better.

Accordingly to my two nieces who visited Greece recently, the country is a sh*t ho*le with the greatest promotion available to humanity.. :)

So, Poland needs a lot of promotion/marketing and it will all be just fine, including the roads. Go Poland. You can do that!

Interesting, can't say i would agree with them, but i guess it depends what your looking for. I don't think there are too many Walmarts there though :-)

Were these nieces from Poland? They complain about everything there.
Greece is one of the most interesting contries in the world. but it depends what a person is looking for.

Yes, they were from Poland. Sure, they loved the scenery, the ancient architectural places, but they were not impressed with the usual, everyday life, accommodations, food, shopping etc.

The worst - the abundance of stray, miserable looking cats and dogs running around the streets of Athens.

At least, the Chinese could make a nice meal out of them... as they are (I hear) doing it already, catching and killing all the strays... :(

They breed their own there. A soldier stationed in Korea was telling me how they raise dogs and every once in a while he would hear one being killed.
Lots of beggers in Greece looking for handouts, shouldn't drink their water. there are good and bad parts, depending on what you're focusing on.

It seems that it was good idea with building 6 stadiums instead of 4. :)

"Nie zbudujemy 900 km dróg na Euro"

"we'll be 900km short of roads by euro 2012"

I still can't understand why this fucking country can't build highways. I'm glad i didn't read this in the morning, otherwise my day would have been ruined. Good night.
